Prednisolone and Budesonide

Hi.

To continue my story.

Since my last post, I have been hospitalised three times. My Pred was increased to 2mg (sick day rules) and that is where I have stayed.

Also on Budesonide and tapered to 3mg whilst in hospital.

I was experiencing severe wooziness/dizziness whilst there, which the consultant put down to low iron or low blood pressure. To me it didn’t seem like either!

I was discharged about a week ago and the wooziness continued. I had diarrhoea all the time I was in hospital, and in addition, was given two days of colonoscopy prep, and a similar prep for an MRI scan. All of which couldn’t have helped the steroid absorption.

I am still having “woozy” spells and having now stopped the Budesonide today after a final week of EOD, increased the Pred (Gastro coated) this morning, in the hope the woozy feeling will disappear. (Also experiencing muscle weakness and feelings of anxiety)

i did do some research and it appears that withdrawal effects of Budesonide can be worse if you have been taking Pred in addition.

So my question is, I have been taking Budesonide every other day for a week. Should I continue that every third day for a further week, or up the Pred still further? Or try the 3mg Pred as I have done this morning, forget the Budesonide, and see how I go?

At my wits end!

Has no-one considered that you might be suffering from adrenal insufficiency? Because that would account for all the effects you are experiencing?

As for continuing your slow taper of the budesonide - I would rather than just stopping it now. Can't harm.

Hi Pro,

No. No one came up with that revelation!

Maybe if I keep the Pred increased to 3mg and then the Budesonide every third day for a week, then every 4 th day for a week and then stop, that could possibly work.

It’s certainly no fun.

Thank you for replying. I thought you were on holiday in the U.K.? If you are, double thank you, and glad you are enjoying our best weather.
