Reducing Slowly

I am tapering from 8 to 7mg of Pred. My method is that for the first week I reduce to 7 1/2 for one day only. The next week for two days only. Adding one day each week means that by the seventh week I will be on 7 1/2 every day.

The following 7 weeks I will reduce to just 7 mg by the same method.

I know reducing becomes more difficult on the lower numbers but does this 7 day method seem ok or is it too slow? I am in no hurry and would like to reduce flares while still encouraging my adrenals to wake up.

I absolutely feel safely held by this wonderful website with all the knowledge, compassion and intelligence you all provide. Can’t thank you enough.

It’s exactly what my 7week taper states.. and many have used it successfully … so don’t see why not.

But if it becomes more difficult- which it may, then either extend the taper or reduce the step down to 0.25mg.. but address that issue if it arises.

Good luck.

Thankyou so much. That puts my mind and hopefully body into a relatively peaceful state. All going reasonably well so far.

As DL says - basically the same as either her taper or my DSNS version. They have worked for lots of people - and if it turns out to be too much, you can reduce the size of the step down.

All the best ...

What a lovely comment at the end of your post. One I totally agree with. I can't advise you on reducing as I have struggled myself.

Yes that is a lovely comment & definitely appropriate.

The harsh reality of having these kinds of long term conditions is that they’re so misunderstood by people who are well.

I met someone recently who said “I thought you’d be better by now”😩

The beauty of this group is that there’s understanding.

Sincere thanks to those who setup & maintain this group.
