Took my last, hopefully, dose of pred 3 weeks ago. I live in Brasil, and see a good, reputable Immunologist. Since I have had various ailments over the past dozen years, my initial treatment and 'follow ups' were in UK, and usual tracking of GCA markers, VHS and CRP, were invariably higher than recommended levels, since I had infections associated with other problems. The last 6 years, I basically ignored VHS, CRP results, and since GCA is not a symptomless disease, relied on signs of symptoms and physical checks for return of disease. Now to my main point. The first blood exam, following cessation of Pred, was after2 weeks. The Laboratory called me the day after the blood exam, wanting to know if I was having Chemotherapy. ! The Lab had a disturbing result on Neutrophils. Reading was 5%. 206/uL. The 'normal' range is 40-80% and 1800-7800/uL. I am 78 yo, male.

I was having 1.25mg Tapazol, every other day, as medication for Hyperthyroidism. The drug has known effects on Neutrophils, and I have ceased this medication.

Has anyone any experience of this. ?I have retested to verify reading.

Pred tends to raise neutrophils so it is possible it had been maintaining the level despite the Tapazol but without it, the level has fallen.

Most people on here are still on pred - many leave once they are off pred so there may not be anyone fulfilling both criteria.
