PMR v Type 2 Diabetes.

I have written a fair few times on my adventures with PMR which started in early 2017.Been up and down on various levels of prednisone then in May 24 my Rheumatology dept decided enough they wanted me off prednisone. After several blood tests and an ex Ray I was started on 10mg METHOTREXATE once a week Tuesday. At the time I was trying hard to come off prednisone and was on 4mg prednisone.

On this for approximately 8 weeks then noticed mouth sores, contacted Rheumatology who told me to reduce to 7.5mg METHOTREXATE.

A few weeks later terrible stomach aches and dirreah at least once a week. The pains in the bottom and rhs of my stomach were severe so much so I went to my doctors and he organised probe tests and CT scans the later I had yesterday.

I reduced to 5mg METHOTREXATE in October and still suffering I stopped taking the METHOTREXATE altogether.

I was still on prednisone 2-3 mg.

In early January saw senior Rheumatologist who reviewed my recent bloods and declared I no longer had PMR and I should come of the now now 2mg slowly. This I did I was keen to come off as being a type 2 diabetic is not helpful finishing them in late Feb.

During February noticed pains in my shoulders, neck, and arms getting worse especially in a morning. I am persisting hoping it will get better.

One other thing I have suffered with for some time is fatigue and nausa but is it the PMR or could this be my type 2 diabetes. Been a diabetic for 20 years taking Metformin and then the last 10 years Metformin and Gliclazide , both come with side effects.

Im fed up with feeling unwell, my sugar levels do bounce around abit, before I went to bed last night 6.8, this morning with only water taken through the night 7.3. Midmorning generally at its worst after breakfast which is only small bowl of cereals but pushes me up to 11 to 13.

My thoughts are these 2 neds Metformin and gliclazide no use to me Im considering seeing diabetic nurse about hoing onto insulin.

Any thoughts on this appreciated as Im at the end of my tether.

One other thing I pee alot during the night up 5 or 6 times every night.

Kind Regards

Carl s

I would suspect that the fatigue and nausea is due to adrenal insufficiency - has no-one considered that?

And that is a VERY clever doctor who can tell a patient on 2-3mg pred that their PMR is gone just because their blood markers are in normal range! You say "During February noticed pains in my shoulders, neck, and arms getting worse especially in a morning. I am persisting hoping it will get better."

That is very possibly the PMR inflammation escaping because you are on too little pred and if you persist, if it is that, it won't get better but worse.

Ditto to PMRpro's comments - and reducing from 2-3mg of pred to zero is less than 2 months isn't slow - and probably added to your issues.

I am so impressed with these doctors who can tell you that the PMR has gone, I wonder if they can tell the results of the Lottery in advance too, as they seem to have a crystal ball.
