In January this year I felt almost back to my fitter pre-PMR self than I had done in a long time. So much so I engaged a personal trainer specialising in helping older women improve their fitness. All was well until I had surgery on my right hand due to grade 4 OA in my wrists. 2 weeks post-surgery I was unable to pull clothes off over my head and struggled to put on and remove coats, my upper arm and shoulders being very painful. I upped the pred from 7.5 mg to 12 mg for 5 days then returned to 8 mg.
A week later my left wrist and tendons in both elbows became very sore, friction in clothes was/is very painful. The physiotherapist diagnosed with De Quervains tendonitis in my wrist, told me to rest and wear a splint for 6 - 8 wks. I now have splints on both hands, and am in pain from the wrists to hands. (My dog is also recovering from surgery and on crate rest, 4 more wks to go.) I had a blood test yesterday and have upped the pred back to 10 mg for a week. Has anyone else had issues with their tendons? Onwards and upwards, at least spring is on its way.
Prof Dasgupta's talk at the w/e on DSPN was enlightening in many respects, especially for those of us who have had this condition for several yrs. Thank you for arranging these updates.
