Marine Magnesium supplements

Is it ok to take these supplements? I am having difficulty sleeping and have muscle aches which are not pmr as I have experienced over the past 6 years. I seem to have a lot of small aches and pains, increased arthritis and now hot and swollen thumb joint. I am consistently told it is my age but it is getting me down. Are there any risks to taking them.

Not that I know - I take magnesium if I need it. Not sure of the source as it is the same one the local hospital uses. Muscle aches can sometimes be due to low magnesium so worth a try, Mine currently are the weather!! My right thumb joints is doing its usual weather forecast act ...

Are you on any other medications or do you have any other health conditions that would limit you using Magnesium?Things like low blood pressure, particularly night symptoms and low heart rate ( bradycardia) are reasons not to take Magnesium supplements at night.

They aren't advised to many people on blood pressure medications,

You shouldn't take them if you require a diuretic / water pills or have kidney or liver related issues either.

You have to be careful about which type of Magnesium supplements you use if you have digestive health problems too.

If you have heart related issues that require a controlled level of sodium or potassium like arrhythmias or Atrial fibrillation ( either if it must be lower or higher) they aren't recommended either.

Some people with these health issues can use the right form of magnesium supplement for pain , restless legs and sleep disturbance but they have to check with their specialist and usually need to time it's use earlier in day (which often means it won't make much difference to sleep).

Magnesium Glycinate 3 in 1 by Nutrition Geeks ( available from there website or on Amazon) is a good , well tolerated combination of active ( simply absorbed) Magnesium varieties that don't affect your stomach if you choose a supplement.

Many Marine Magnesium supplements still contain citrate and other magnesium forms which cause stomach symptoms and diarrhea.

If you want to try Magnesium for aches , pains and sleep , you can increase it in food intake and use a topical cream or lotion at night rather than as an oral supplement.

BetterYou, has various lotions and body butters that are very good , they have also been tested by a University so they are the one set of Magnesium creams that tell you the average Mg of Magnesium you can absorb from each normal application. They have offers and information on their website but often they are cheapest on Amazon .

The body butter has the largest amount of Magnesium but it's harder to apply and has a slight " essence of fish and chips paper" , probably because of the Magnesium. I add a few drops of lavender oil and camomile oil and mix it in to help it smell better. These scents can also help some people to feel more relaxed to sleep.

The BetterYou Magnesium Lotion and Spray both smell nice even as fragrance free and I use them at night or as a general moisturizer.

Have you seen someone about your thumb?

You might benefit from using the right thumb support for certain jobs or certain amounts of time during the day.

Isometric exercises also help with pain in the hand and finger joints.

Thank you very much for all that info. I will study it and consider which approach is best. Maybe the cream or spray as they seem safer. My thumb has improved but I will see my doctor if it flares up again. I don't post often but have used this site as a guide over the past 5 yearsMany thanks
