Tapering slowly and success at last.

The past few months I have had plantacitis in my right foot, and just when that started to come right, I developed sciatica down left leg, as a result of walking with a limp and putting extra strain on my left hip and back. My GP gave me norflex for the muscle spasms and slow release tramol for the pain. This norflex was a new medication for me, at the same time I had started tapering from 6mg to 5.5mg pred. I ran out of my norflex tablets just after I started the slow taper, back came my nocturnal headaches.(withdrawal symptoms) When I restarted the norflex muscle relaxants my headaches disappeared. I am now tapering again to 5mg, and still taking norflex, and no headaches. This is such a big deal for me and making the tapering so much easier. My Dr is happy for me to keep taking norflex if it is helping me taper down. The sciatica is nearly better so long as I don't stand too long. I am still walking 30 to 40 mins every day, a very slow walk . I'm hoping the slow taper can keep me going down, without the withdrawal symptoms now. I want to get right off pred if possible and get my osteoporosis to improve. I take vit D and have the infusions for my bones, so fingers crossed it will improve.

Thanks DL, I have been hesitant to say anything in case I jinxed it, but after so long of yoyoing it's very exciting to be finally on the right track. I've still got to be patient. So many people have such awful problems and diagnoses mine really seem insignificant. I just hope I don't have any more stress fractures, they were so debilitating. Thanks for your advice along the way, it's been really reassuring. Janis

Good luck with the tapering. Glad things are going pretty well.

Thanks so much PMRpro, it's so good to finally be on the right track. Thank you for all your advice and support along the way, it certainly gave me hope when I was feeling down and overwhelmed. I will keep you posted on my progress, and hopefully I can keep on the downward track. I must keep patient and not get ahead of myself. Janis.
