Good Rheumy appointment

Saw my rheumy yesterday, a lovely man who spends time explaining your latest tests etc. Even had a laugh when I said about the pain in my neck, turning to my husband he said "is this him?" But good news is he thinks my RA is in remission and he knows I am still on 3 mg pred and obviously wants me off but didn't insist and will see me in a year, but gave me three phone numbers to ring if I have any concerns meanwhile. There are some good ones out there.

How is your PMR?

PMR is not bad, did get down to one & half mg but had a chest infection so had to come off methortrexate for a few week while they investigated and had a flare so had to increase pred by 5 mg for a while but have reduced back down to 3mg so far.

Sounds like a keeper. The rheumie and the hubbie. 😀Reminds me of a story a friend told me about her dad who was being silly and not doing what the doctor told him to do. He turned to my friend's mum and said 'You do realise Mrs X, you married an idiot' and she laughed and nodded.

We have to remember this is an untreatable condition. It either goes away on its own accord or not. Of course if the cause of the condition can be improved with diet, exercise or other manageable changes then those are the lucky people! Likewise if the condition was triggered by a vaccine or something like that, then it will go away given time… But generally all we get is a potent drug that masks symptoms and offers a hope line that over time whatever triggered the symptoms goes away!

It may be incurable, but it’s certainly not untreatable.

As. DL says, this, at the moment, may be incurable but it is certainly treatable and as incurable conditions go it's a hell of a lot better than most other incurable diseases out there.

It is only untreatable when incorrectly diagnosed. Eminently treatable, manageable - whatever you want to call the process - but not curable as is the case for most autoimmune conditions. However - as any such condition goes, PMR/GCA aren't too bad ones to be landed with and PMR doesn't kill. GCA and LVV may do though.
