Has anyone tried this to help get off PREDNISONE?
Low dose Naltrexone: Has anyone tried this to help... - PMRGCAuk
Low dose Naltrexone
There are a few, and found these with a quick search -
I'm told the UK LDN charity website forums have a lot of PMR users but have never looked at it myself. I believe it is used in Norway and we had a member in Norway who was being started on it by her doctor. She said she would keep us updated on her progress - and we never heard a peep from her again.
I tend to assume that if people did really well with it that they would come and spread the word. They don't.
I have been taking LDN since the start of the year and it has definitely helped with my GCA symptoms. HOWEVER, I experienced a flare despite the LDN. It is not enough to replace prednisone. Sorry.
This question crops up often but I've never seem any published studies on it. And until it is properly researched we shall never know
As tanocharlie says, conservations about Naltrexone crop up every so often, but no one seems to rave about it and say that it is the be all and end all.
I tried it but always seemed to get a UTI immediately. Also worried me that if I needed opiates in an emergency they wouldn’t work.
Lo and behold last September I was admitted to the hospital with a painful small bowel obstruction. And needed opiates for the pain. Glad I wasn’t taking it.
i fortunately no longer use Prednisone!
Darcy, I am only on one drug for my PMR and possibly PsA. It's prednisone. I started at about 20 mg a day last April and am now down to 8.5 mg a day. The slow reduction has been working. I am currently reducing 1.mg a month or one half every 2 weeks. Patience is the key. I have had a few minor flaws if I try to do too much but this method works. I have also changed my diet alot to more fish like sardines, salmon and cod for the omega 3. The Ambassadors on this site are the best with their support and advice. Good luck
