I've come down with Covid today. The test went positive in about 30 seconds! I had just started a slow taper to 8mg from 8.5. Please can you clarify whether, under sick day rules, I need to increase to 5mg twice a day or 10mg twice a day. The 10 option seems a big jump.
Also if I am offered antivirals does that alter the above regime? I am just waiting for an assessment.
How long do I continue with the sick day rules and how will that affect my usual dosing?
Thanks as always for being there, especially in times of crisis. Unfortunately I was waiting for a doctor's appointment for other problems so it's not the best time to have come down with covid, but then it probably never is!

How unwell are you? I assume you have been vaccinated? If so, then the specific Covid SDRs are probably unnecessary unless you are really unwell and stuck in bed. And as DL says - roulette crossed with a postcode lottery with the antivirals!!!
Thank you for your reply. I am in bed and feel a bit rough but not too bad really. I feel 10mg twice a day is a big jump. I notice the guidelines were produced in October 2020 so before vaccines.
My last vaccine was in October 2023. I’d made an appointment for my booster this summer but was refused - not 75 until December and not on enough Pred to qualify. Ironically I had booked a private Pfizer jab for this afternoon!
Equally I was turned down for anti-virals.
Hopefully it will not be too bad. I’ve decided not to take 10mg x2 but a smaller increase, yet to be decided!
Just found this post whilst looking for info re Covid as have just tested positive. Had what I thought was a cold for a few days, knocked out with fatigue but much better today. Thinking I don't need to up further as just went up again with other issues! Thinking to stay where I am?
I think you are right. It was a different matter when the original Covid advice was publlished, it was early days when people were really unwell as they had little or no natural immunity. That is all changed because so many have had it or been vaccinated. If you thought it was "just" a cold, you obviously are dealing with it well.
I had Covid recently just after coming out of hospital following a hip replacement. I upped my dose by 5mg - actually 5.5mg as I was on 4.5mg before I went into hospital (suddenly) and my pred was upped while I was in there. Then back down to 4.5mg and back up to 10mg for about a week, then I dropped down in stages back to 4.5mg where I have been for a few days (also had a bad stomach bug last week) - and that seems OK so trying to stabilise at that
