‘…Biologics have come to the forefront as glucocorticoid-sparing agents. After the seminal GiACTA trial, tocilizumab is now recommended as a first-line therapy for giant cell arteritis in combination with a glucocorticoid taper.’ (Worth reading the embedded links.)

There’s a difference between Tocilizumab being recommended and actually being prescribed.

Once upon a time, The Lancet was a British journal. These days it is published by Elsevier - Amsterdam - and has editorial offices in New York, Beijing and London.

I try to ignore the more unacceptable aspects of HU. There used to be a superb UK-based forum on patient.info. Then they started messing with it to make it more trendy and made it next to unusuable first for people with vision problems and later for everyone because getting access was so complicated and time consuming because of their tweaks all the time. We all transferred over here - and it was all good for ages. Until it was sold.

I think the HU situation is important to know, from a conflict of interest standpoint.

I stick to our forum and ignore their other offerings! "You don't seem to have joined a programme yet" - nor am I EVER likely to!
