I have only written once before ( my introduction ) where I confessed to being a tapering Idiot for speeding up the reduction way too fast. I blamed my inner 18 year old boy and his ridiculous optimism and devil may care attitude. I am a little bit like Billy Connelly as I wander off in all directions and ended up discussing who could eat only 1 Malteser etc. It was way off topic but a lot of fun.
The experts were gentle with me which gets me to the real reason for writing this.
I was encouraged to something about Prednisolone but that is like asking Mike Tyson to talk about flower arranging or ballet dancing..
In a nutshell when it comes to advice giving on the subject I have nothing to offer. I read other peoples questions and problems with interest and then learn from the advice they are offered. Which got me thinking. I am taking and not giving and then I thought I have something I can offer which has given me pleasure and which I hope may give pleasure to other people on the forum. I think it's fair to say most of us on the forum are past our first flush of youth and I am guessing that my music could be your music. I love people like Buddy Holly, The Everly Bros and Bobby Vee amongst hundreds of others .
I have been singing all my life and I have a real love of music especially music from the late 50's and the early 60's. I ended up at Youtube a few years ago and during lockdown I reorganised my home page at Youtube so that people can find a particular song either by year or by original artist. It's like a menu in a restaurant. You simply browse the menu. There are over 700 to choose from. If you aren't familiar with Youtube it's all free and also safe. I don't want's anyone to be disappointed so I will make it clear that all the vocals are by me alone or with a friend or friends ( plural ) using the very best backing tracks.
I am hoping that the songs will bring back some happy moments in your life. I am enclosing a simple link to my homepage which should open with just a click
Thanks for the link , I make my own YouTube music lists for different moods , genres and to help exercise or relaxation , but I also like to get suggestions from others.Music really is a great form of Self Care , like Laughter a medication with few side effects......unless you are forced to listen to Screamo in the car by your kids , of course!
Take care and thanks for your kind contribution, Bee
Did have a listen to your ‘Rain’ contribution - much my era as well… but think I might have to pass on your Elvis renditions - he was my second love [after hubby of course, who actually had a fantastic tenor voice]. No -one can compare to “The King’ - sure you’ll understand.. 😊
I was never an Elvis fan myself I preferred Roy Orbison and Del Shannon but as I grew older I realised what a wonderful voice he had. I think I realised that when It's Now or Never came out. I can take you not liking my versions of his songs. Therefor you will be appalled to hear that my version of Love Letters ( based on Elvis's version ) was blocked in Germany by his record company who claimed it was Elvis. lol Apart from the obvious ( I can't sing as well as Elvis ) I added some extra vocals that weren't on Elvis's version. BUT it's not about me it's all about the songs. I don't need or want my ego stroking. I won't go on any more. I could talk for England once you get my started about those fabulous songs.
I didn’t say I didn’t like your version of Elvis’s songs…I just said I preferred his version 😊… and yes when you listen to his music, much of it very different to the obvious songs played, you realise he has got a lovely voice….
I read once that Elvis said that there was only one singer that could sing better than him and that was Roy Orbison.. As for Elvis if you look in my Elvis folder you will see that I haven't been stupid enough to even attempt It's Now or Never. lol
I have read it and had a look. It just isn't my sort of music but I'm impressed. I and my husband "did" different music all our lives - but we couldn't have done what you do,
I am interested in what sort of music you like . I have to get ready now to visit the hospital for my Glaucoma check ( Thanks Pred ) But look forward to reading your reply if you have the time
Plainsong and medieval polyphony!! When you posted I had just returned from aquafit - 3/4 of an hour of purgatory for me. Instead of the usual gym music the instructor is using a compilation from a local Tirolean folk group - because the other ladies of a certain age love it, all locals and they sing along just to make it even worse. Yesterday it was set at a decent level but they complained they couldn't hear it. she should turn it up. She did. Unfortunately in this context - unlike most of them I don't have any hearing problems except since PMR I find loud sounds a bit uncomfortable. And I am NOT a lover of oompah oompah folk stuff.
That's a funny story ( unless you lived it ). I am always honest and I must admit that I don't even know what Plainsong and medieval polyphony is ( Hangs head in shame. I was a church choirboy for about 6 years growing up in East London and that gave me a love of English Church music although that is probably something different to your music of choice
Oh church music is just the slightly more modern version and that was what we did together more than anything else - trying to introduce American Army Episcopalians to decent Church music rather than their preferred variety. Partly successful ... My husband did all sorts - I was the odd one in music choices!
You love music as do I . Variety is the spice of life . The important thing is it brings us both joy. Blearyeyed is right . It can work as powerful medication. I know that before I was diagnosed with PMR, the symptoms were pretty grim and music helped me stay cheerful.
I was just worried that people might read my letter and think I was looking for some more subscribers or views at Youtube. I genuinely just want to remind people of the great songs of that era and that the songs might make them happy. It's all about the songs.
Hi Willpower! Thanks for your refreshing post. I spend many hours listening to music on Youtube. I don't watch TV. I'm a 60s/70s person re music. Yesterday was Floyd (Shine on you crazy diamond), The Kinks before that, then some Mike Oldfield and Sinead O'Connor (singing in gaelic). Sometimes the music makes me happy, sometimes I cry buckets. My fingers are too stiff to play piano now, but maybe I'll give it another try. All the best to you and other music-lovers out there!
