Adrenals

Have been off pred for sixteen months now, but this morning experienced a horrible hour of nausea , which caused me to abandon breakfast half way through. Sat down, feet up for a couple of hours, and gradually felt a bit better.

It felt very much like the adrenal issues I occasionally experienced when getting down to zero, but, with no pred for many months, it came as an unpleasant surprise.

I had these bouts long after zero Pred but only when I had clearly been challenged in an out of the ordinary way for a protracted period.

Just for info. There seems to be a bug going round that gives one intermittent sudden nausea, abdominal cramps, increased heart rate and sweaty weak feeling. I’m not well at the moment with something unrelated and thought, “here we go again with an adrenal crisis” though it didn’t feel quite the right scenario. My daughter who like her friends had had it, visited me and hey presto.

Hi SnazzyD,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it was a very sudden episode - one minute ok, and the next not so. Feeling a bit better now, but not 100%.

Did feel adrenal related to me, though I had hoped I was through that by now. Maybe I should know better!

Just read this and think I had this bug the other day. Only lasted for 24 hours but had those symptoms. I hadn’t realised there was a bug so thank you. My Fitbit showed my heart rate was up.

I had that bug the other Saturday was a 24 hour bug.

Sure it did... but hopefully it will soon pass, especially if it's a bug as SnazzyD has suggested.

Thanks for your good wishes. Think I must have used up all my adrenaline reserves in the last twenty minutes of the England / Ireland game on Saturday!

My husband was watching it in the room next door and the noises coming out during that game sounded like a wild animal. He came out looking like he’d had a full workout. I gather it was a tense match.

Yes, you could certainly say that! For sure, I was shouting at the TV.

At least it was a good result.

Feeling absolutely fine this morning, so I m thinking it was an adrenal splutter. I’d have been in no doubt if it had happened six months ago.

Thank you for all your help. You are a goldmine of information!

I reckon the rugby caused it, I’m still flat out in bed each morning having to really push myself to get up!! It was wonderful, though. I’d been shifting compost in the morning, too, so really suffering this week. I truly hope it’s an isolated incident for you, I get a lot of mild nausea & it’s highly unpleasant! Will be in touch soon, very busy here! S x

What can I say other than, like me, you should know better than to shift compost - a heavy job 😫.

But, excellent viewing all weekend, and three more games on Saturday.

Best wishes

Tee hee, of course I know better! But David is not good enough to do it now, we’d paid a guy to repoint then patio & lay a smaller one, & had no more money in the budget! It would have meant dipping into the fun & holiday fund…& I’d rather dig compost!! Ha ha, I will never remember to behave! S xx

My friends had a 24 hour bug, came on out of nowhere, tired and nauseous, took to their beds, fine the next day.

If you are coming down with an infection or just generally run down for some reason you can get symptoms similar to those you felt at Zero or during the Adrenal Phase of coming off Pred. That's because sudden or acute illnesses cause the same symptoms as adrenal insufficiency and autonomic dysfunction as they trigger the same issues in your body.

It might be worth getting a full check up at your GP surgery if you haven't had one recently just to be sure that you are still doing ok and haven't come down with something else.

It can be a shock when you feel similar symptoms to those you had with your long term illness , even long after you've recovered. To be frank , we can all have a touch of PTSD coming out of the other side of a long illness or serious health event.

I find I feel more anxious these days when I get my cardiac symptoms suddenly popping up thinking my Arrhythmias or Dysautonomia are playing up then realising it's just what I was doing or a bit of wind!

It takes time to desensitize yourself to certain symptoms or not just assume that a similar symptom is your old illness coming back again.

Take care , Bee
