Since having my hip op the other hip has become very painful. I had an appointment with my consultant and told him i was in awful pain across the bottom of my spine area . I had a scan and sadly it shows i have osteopororsis and have a fracture in my 4th vertebra . I am so down atm. I am a positive person but have to admit with this latest news im struggling . i have to see my Dr and consultant again in March to discuss whats next She talked about an infusion ? To be honest im so low, just dont feel up to getting back on the tread mill of apps, but i suppose i will talk myself into it. I was feeling so good about my new hip then it all changed . I suppose thats life!

I am 100% behind you!!! I know exactly how you feel, been feeling exactly the same. I am starting the year something similar after two back surgeries and a broken coccyx in last 7 months. Im still not right. But you know we WILL keep going, because thats what we do!!! Sorry to hear about the broken vertebre. Ive also been told ive just slipped into osteoporosis. Injections this friday for back, blah blah blah. I hope your vertebre heals quickly. Let us know how you get in. Wishing you the very best, you are not alone.

Thank you so much, just a shock as I was so optimistic after my first hip replacement, I just seemed to go down hill so quickly, even though my new hip is fantastic.Just have to start again with all the other problems.

Of course you’re feeling down with this latest blow and the thought of more appointments to prepare for and to keep. It’s a slog and hard to be positive all the time - if it were me the air in my house would be blue. However, you’ve got this far and as powerwalk says you WILL get through, there is no doubt. You have us to come to if/when you want to vent so don’t forget that. I have everything crossed for you. 🤞💐

I had a phone call from my rheumy this afternoon - to ask how I'd got on after the steroid injection last week. The answer - great, I can move without pain! The bad news though is an x-ray shows a fine fracture of a lumbar vertebra - and the discussion was as to which version of bone medication would I like. I've chosen the annual infusion, done and dusted for a year and not more tablets. I have to go in tomorrow and fetch a script for a blood test (still have the bruise from the last effort) and make an appointment for the infusion. Luckily the fracture isn't apparently painful - unless it is the pain I'm putting down to muscles! It does happen.

So I know where you are coming from - but it is just another step on our journey and the infusion will help prevent it getting worse. Virtual hugs xxx

Wow ! how strange we are in a similar position , i had never heard of an infusion before this . My Dr told my there would be a couple of options , think after reading up on it i may prefer the Infusion. Good luck with it, could you let me know when you have had it and how you got on? I would be very grateful . Best of luck . Viv xxx

Won't be for about 3 weeks - I was offered appointments sooner but on a Tuesday which simply ISN'T convenient! Or 8am - in your dreams, I can't even get out of bed by then never mind make it to the hospital!!

Almost every time people talk about bisphosphonates upsetting their stomach I write about the alternatives - including infusions, I'm surprised you haven't see it.

which infusion would that be? I have denosumab injections 6-monthly, but despite reasonable T-scores in the osteopaenia region, the denosumab has not prevented 3 spinal compression fractures. Fortunately for me, they don't seem to have cause any extra pain yet.

Zolendronate.

Prolia doesn't stop you developing fractures - it reduces the risk so without it you might have had 6 rather than just 3. The bone density is said to increase within about 10 days of the injection - but fades again after 4 or 5 months so there is likely to be a short window where they become more likely again.

Oh interesting, I'm going to Google a few things about different options!😊

It applies to everything really - they don't have an effect immediately, they don't "cure" the problem and all have pros and cons.

Hi I'm glad it has not caused you any pain.Mine was horrendous it took 6 weeks even to calm down, my Dr is going to discuss different options after I have had my consultant appointment, about my Osteoporosis and another hip replacement! More trips to the hospital.!

Oh do I know how you feel. I was so upbeat after 6 years PMR and a total hip replacement caused by Pred that caused a Avascular necrosis. I exercised and was walking straight and pain free. Then the first bomb shell dropped of full thickness. Gluteal tear. , I am too old for surgery but I will do physio and strengthen the other muscles. Then came the most horrendous Meralgia Parasthetica. I decided to have a private injection, it didn’t work. Plus poorly controlled DM2, Hypotension and a cataract op this week I can hardly cope. People ask me how do I cope. What is the alternative.? Lying on the floor with my feet thrashing in the air screaming.! My children were good at that. All we can do is keep on trucking! Best wishes,
