what color is your prednisone?

I’ve been taking prednisone forever. My 1 mg pills have always been white. Opened new bottle today, pills are beige and larger Than my white ones. Called pharmacist who insisted they are 1 mg, but by a different company. The writing on the back, “1” and “p1” coincided with what he told me to look for. Anybody else have beige 1 mg pills? Thanks!

He is quite correct - different companies have slightly different choices of pill characteristics - the active stuff inside is the same although the fillers used to make a tablet might vary.

My methylprednisolone is a small white uncoated oval with a criss-cross on it

Hi there,

Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. After some research online I was able to identify them as 1mg prednisone. They are beige with the 1 and p1. I use Walgreens pharmacy.

I use Walgreens too! The pharmacist said they have maybe 9 million choices at any one time, makes me glad I never was a pharmacist!

Don't know what the difference is between prednisone & prednisolone. My 5mg pred are red, 2.5mg black. However, different companies use different shapes & colours.

Prednisone is a precursor to prednisolone which is the active form of the substance. Prednisone must be processed in the liver to turn it into prednisolone.

Official answer. The main difference between prednisone and prednisolone is that prednisone must be converted by liver enzymes to prednisolone before it can work. In people with severe liver disease, prednisolone is usually preferred

Hi yes, that happened to me a few months ago. I had the pharmacist check as I couldn't find the pill color and number online to verify. He said he could not yet find it online yet either but went and pulled the original cartons and the new beige, larger pills are in fact 1 mg. Easier to split for me!

Oh! Easier to split, didn’t think of that!

No, only white here for pred...so far~! I look up other medications online if necessary because colors vary. Most of my meds come in pill packs, and they will alert me if the coloring is different. I'm sure it is whatever is cheaper....cha-ching $$$ 💞

I feel quite left out,😢 mine have only ever been little white ones. Unless my eyes are deteriorating they also seem to get smaller as time goes on. I like the idea of slightly larger ones for cutting purposes, I would really struggle with trying to cut my 1.0mg ones into four as I know others manage.
