Further Advice on raised CRP Levels and tight leg muscles

I posted about my raised CRP levels about 15 days ago when I reported that in August they were 13.6 when I was on 4.5 of pred. I treated that as a flare and dropped back to 5. Then on the 17 0ctober they went to 17.6 again I treated that as a flare and dropped back to 6. They then went to 55.4 which worried my doctor. Following advice on the forum I stayed on 6.

I also have long term musculoskeletal problems which have recently tightened my leg muscles. I have made the situation worse by doing a wrong exercise that really upset things. I have also had a lot of stress. My leg muscles became very painful and made stair climbing difficult. It also meant that monitoring the polymyalgia through muscular tightness was difficult. My physio has helped and released some of the tightness. He says the tight muscles could cause the rise in levels or give versa. But some of the pain has felt a bit like polymyalgia pain. However, I do think i have become sensitised and over alert to pain which is making monitoring difficult.

My doctor has been really attentive and sent me to the pain clinic. I saw him this week and he has asked me to go to 15 for five days and drop back to 6. I wondered if I should stagger the drop by going to 11 for a couple of days just to ensure all the inflammation was removed and then drop to 6. But I also wonder if 6 will be enough. I don’t want to yo yo or keep flaring but the steroids weaken muscles so increasing them doesn’t help the musculoskeletal problems. I have another blood test booked in 3 weeks. Because monitoring is tricky, and because I have polymyalgia for over two years, my doctor has referred me to rheumatology

I would be grateful for your advice.

hi,

Sorry to hear you are having these issues, and yes it may be sensible to stagger your drop back down as you suggest… and maybe drop to 7mg…. And to be honest I’d stay at the higher dose for longer than 5 days. [if you have enough Pred] it may take longer than that to mop up them inflammation…. Maybe try 10 days.

Thanks Dorset Lady

It’s really difficult to monitor the polymyalgia because of all the issues with my legs. Don’t want to take more steroids than I need but want to squash a flare if it is one.
