Turmeric

I wondered what the thoughts are on taking Turmeric. I had PMR which started in my late 60’s not long after retiring from nursing. I gleaned most of my help with this by belonging to and helping with the admin of the SW PMRGCA group. PMR gradually subsided and I was ok for about 4 years but has now returned once again. I manage this condition myself with - the occasional request to my GP for a blood test -,but not very well! I am on 6 mgs Pred and have One fairly good day when I overdo everything ( my husband is 83 with COPD ) and then a day of aching. I know this is all my doing so Turmeric popped into my mind remembering the many speakers we had when I belonged to the SW group.

Have replied to your other post -

Replicated here _

No problem….you very often have to write a post and then as you discovered get related one..

You can use the search facility, but then you need to filter results, and tbh it’s not always that successful- so best to ask!

Always worth a look in the FAQs, but there’s nothing specific in there about turmeric- so wouldn’t have worked this time.

But you do seem to have posted twice…

As for your one day good, one day bad, that’s fairly typical , and although it’s easy to say, you probably need to try and not do too much in the good days.

Plus at 6mg would say your adrenals are stuttering as well, which just compounds the situation..so very slow taper as described in FAQs - and only no,5mg a time -if not already doing so]…

Some people find supplements as such are too much - and you shouldn't take them if you are on anticoagulant therapy as it can increase bruising. However I know several people who use turmeric in cooking which is safer and they say they can tell if they miss it for a few days.

I never thought of anticoagulants. - thank you - yes I am on one from a blood clot a couple of years ago ! I was actually waiting for it as it is from an heredity condition - Factor V Leiden . I thought I was doing ok having had 3 children and now 79 but it snook up on me!
