Has anyone used a supplement called Recovery for inflammation. I have a friend that has PMR and uses recovery in conjunction with prednisone. He says it’s helping him reduce his prednisone and is thinking of continuing with it when he gets off prednisone.

I am presently reducing my prednisone .25 mg a month and am currently on 2 mg. I have been getting discomfort, on occasion, in my neck, shoulders, and upper arms so take 2/500 mg of Tylenol which seems to take care of it. When this discomfort gets more frequent I’ve taken the same dose of Tylenol twice a day (12 hrs apart) but it upsets my stomach so hence the reason im looking into Recovery.

Could you provide a link for the product or at least a picture of the package? Having the word recovery in the search doesn't help narrow it down a lot!!!!!

The Recovery I have come across is an organic supplement with fruits, magnesium and vitamins B I think. It is for sportsmen and is supposed to aid normal muscle function.

Sorry for the delay in responding but I live in an area in British Columbia where fires are an issue so have been a bit preoccupied fireproofing my property. The Recovery is called Purica Recovery extra strength and you can find information at purica.com.

I have Osteoarthritis, as well as my friend, and I’m thinking the PMR discomfort symptoms combined with the arthritis is why it works fo him. I am planning on consulting my GP before considering taking this product.

if it is a supplement then the most likely reason your friend is improving is because his PMR is following the normal path of slowly reducing. There is no evidence that supplements help PMR. The disease is a poorly understood malfunction of the immune system. It is complex and zapping the immune system is the best that we can do at the moment But a healthy diet is certainly a good idea to keep us as healthy as possible.

if the supplement contains magnesium, then it’s most likely helpful. This is because prednisone decreases absorption of magnesium in foods.

As Pro says a bit more information on the brand to be able to see what's in it would help. There are about four types of supplement called Recovery , mainly targeted at sportspeople for post workout , some are just vitamin and mineral , some protein based with things like cherry extract and amino acids.

Basically , a good combined vitamin and mineral supplement and water are a good start, taken after your fattiest meal of the day as well as the vitamin D or Adcal , and Magnesium you have probably been taking.

Basically improving your nutrition, getting a good sleep routine , pacing your activity and slowly building up your exercise all help you to improve how successful your recovery and final tapering goes. Continuing that self care after you reach Club Zero us also important as even after you stop steroids your body is still in recovery for as much as a year as you build up your strength again.

These habits aren't a cure or treatment for PMR but do help to cope with the fatigue , symptoms and inflammation while the illness is still active and reduce the time in a flare after one occurs.
