Sulfasalazine (SSX)

Rhemy has me reducing prednisone by 25 every 2 weeks. Only symptoms I have is a.m. stiffness that goes away after a trip to the bathroom. Alittle rt leg thigh pain like after a charlie horse wears off. Suggests that I should try ssz. I just want to keep going with prednisone for now. Due to go down to 20 mg a day this week. Do sure if I should just slow it down

Do you really mean 25 reduction not 2.5mg or .25mg? Whatever the reduction I would slow down to every four weeks personally. Slowly but surely.

I meant 2.5. Will call Remy this week and let him know I want to slow down alittle. Sounds like 2.5 a month may be safer.

Rule of thumb says don't reduce more than 10% at a time.

I can’t help on Sulfasalazine -but guess you mean reducing by 2.5mg every 2 weeks..

The 2.5mg is okay, but really you need to be each dose longer than 2 weeks, it can sometimes take that long to know it’s enough. If it’s not, and you do another reduction you are likely to flare.

At what dose is your doctor intending to introduce SSX?

What's he said about diagnosis? I thought Sulfasalazine was standard for RA?

I got the impression that the Sulfasalazine was being prescribed for Charlie’s Horse.

Just said that to give an example of what the thigh opinion felt like.

I'd want to know WHY sulphasalazine if your diagnosis is PMR. It has no proven effect in PMR.
