Hi all

I have been on 1mg for 8 weeks and feeling ok with no flare ups. What is the best way to taper from here in your experience? Stay on 1mg, 1/2 mg every day, 1mg every other day or some other taper?

I hope everyone is keeping well as can be and the sun is bring a little extra smile to your day. ☀️

Thank you.

Hi, Freddie. Well done for reaching 1mg daily! Now, most definitely DO NOT reduce by 1/2 mg a day or 1mg every other day!! It would be very risky to attempt either of these and patience is needed. Why rock the boat now? I would suggest reducing by no more than 0.5mg a month but there is no reason why you shouldn’t stay on 1mg for longer. Have a look here:

hi,

well done for getting to 1mg.

Suggest you try 1 to 0.5mg first time and then 0.5mg to zero - using one of the following -

Hi Freddie, I tapered to zero from 1 mg last year, took my last dose round Easter time. I reduced by 0.25mg timeAnd adding a day at that dose each week until I ended up at zero.

Good luck.

Thank you for reply. I might sound daft😂but how do you reduce the tablet by .25g. Love the beagle.

By cutting a 1mg into 4. .. patience, skill and a steady hand required 😉

Yes. DL already answered. Cut in half then half the halves....et voila! If you haven't got one then a pill cutter is a great help

I got mine from Amazon.

Hi Freddie, My brother, who lives in Wales (I am on the other side of the world in Tasmania) also has PMR. It has brought us closer together as we ring each other regulalry to compare progress!!

I am still on 10 mgs daily but he is down to SHAVING a 1 mg tablet. I wonder if you could do this?

Having said that I do know that being on such a TINY dose is quite harmelss and that some doctors suggest staying on a low dose just to keep the monster at bay!!!

Hi thank you for reply. Yes it’s a quandary ad to which way to go. Nay just stay on 1 mg for a while longer.

Combining cutting to get 1/2mg and one of the slow tapers repeating steps to slow them even further also works in much the same way.
