Best way to take Prednisolone

Have different brand of Prednisolone this week so read the information leaflet and it says to dissolve the tablets in large glass of water and wondered if that is a better way to take them ? Previous brand just said take as directed by docter but as there was no instruction I’ve just been swallowing them whole with lots of water after breakfast

Apparently there is a water soluble form of pred, which can also be swallowed whole anyway. Found this out from Google.

"Prednisolone Soluble Tablets are best taken dissolved in water, but they can be swallowed whole without difficulty. When dissolved in water the resulting solution must be drunk immediately by the patient."

If I were you I'd be asking why the prescription has been changed to this form. Pred tastes ghastly.

It seems to have the same ingredients as the last lot but when I handed over the precsciption the chemist said they didn’t have that much in stock so maybe why

There have been supply problems in uk recently, perhaps that's why. I would check with your pharmacy.

What is that in aid of! Soluble pred is usually about 30x the price of ordinary so most health authorities try to dissuade its use. I'd ask the pharmacist as they will know more about why it is that version being used. Like PMRnewbie I suspect it is supply problems requiring other forms be used.

Most pred is designed to be taken as tablets. This is obviously one that CAN be dissolved to make it easier to swallow or act faster but for convenience can be taken as a tablet.
