Gardens are such a joy at this time of year. X

They certainly are, so many birds etc. Can ease the problems.

That's beautiful Longtimer... and can you believe that my Wisteria has flowered for the first time in TWELVE years!! I followed all the advice from RHS website regarding the pruning and nothing!! So last year I did nothing to it and this happened! Not as lovely as yours, but I was so happy. Gardens, the birds, nature in general....SO healing.

Lovely. My son planted his 4 years ago, first flowering this year. Now they will flower every year.

Wow! We have had wisteria in our garden, but not nowadays. Difficult to keep under control, as it grew like no tomorrow. Also, the pruning can be a bit of a nuisance, with no guarantee ( to me at any rate) that it will flower.

When it did flower, it was spectacular , but nowhere near as good as yours!

Yes, my OH trims it twice a year, we can look online how to do, but it’s not easy! My sister bought me a big gardening book by Monty Don a few years ago, so we have no excuse. We are lucky my OH does all the gardening, especially topiary! Once a year shapes a massive yew! I sit in the garden on edge with my mobile! then have a lie down!

Methinks you have the best job then!

We are also Monty Don fans.

Love wisterias. Didn’t realise they were difficult to bloom and look after. I’m definitely a “ sit in the garden and just appreciate the work hubby has done” kind of girl. Xx💐

That’s what I have been doing today, lovely

Lovely, we’ve seen some magnificent wisteria this year, & I did want one. But the only suitable wall faces north & it takes so long to wait for the blooms, I could be pushing up daisies before it started flowering! S x

That's a bit pessimistic - I'd like to think I will live another 6 years!!!

By the way - I am reliably informed that you can get mature ones that flower within 2 years ...

You are right and I only found that out recently.

Just checked, Amethyst Falls, flowers in first year, much smaller, can be grown in a pot….as I said I’ m so boring…

trouble is that only wall that’s free is north facing, & whoops, that already has a climbing hydrangea on it!

Longtimer profile image
Longtimer in reply toPixix

Yes I know what you mean, we have just lost a 25 year old Pyracantha on a north facing wall….very limited

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply toLongtimer

definitely! We didn’t plant the tree hydrangea, but it is happy! At our last cottage we planted a Garrya, & that was OK! Sorry you’ve lost your pyracantha after all that time, that’s sad.

Longtimer in reply toPixix

Yes, we have been out this morning and replaced it.....fingers crossed....

Reminds me of someone who decided they wanted to be a doctor, but they were older than your typical med student. When a friend urged them to go ahead with the studies they said, but think how old I'll be by the time I qualify! The answer? The same age you'll be if you don't follow your dream.

I love wisteria. My neighbour has one and I enjoy it from my kitchen window. At the moment I have a kolkwitzia in full bloom in the back garden which is a picture from my bedroom window. I don't know how to send pictures otherwise I would send you one.

I only sent mine first time this week....but won't tell you how because I might tell you wrong!

When you write a reply you will see a bar of ikons underneath it.

B I U @ and a smiley face and a square with a mountain

The square with a mountain is the ikon to add a picture - click or tap on that and it opens a menu: Photo library, Take photo or Choose file on an iPhone. It might be different on an android and on a computer it just offers Open file

Photo library opens your photos, choose the one you want and add it. Then post your reply,

Thankyou PMRpro for that clear explanation; now we know.

It all seems so simple once you know how to do it😊
