waiting for the result of a 24 urine test as possible hypercalcaemia

I am waiting for the result of a 24 hour urine test. I have previously had above the normal range calcium tests. This has been going on for about a year. I’m guessing that the culprit is lithium but I’m wondering whether steroids can cause this ?

It could be if you have been on lithium for a long time. Can't say I am very impressed if it has taken your doctor thin long to get worried about it.

Pred can alter blood calcium levels but not usually to the level of hyercalcaemia - though of course pred plus lithium might be more likely to cause it.

There is no "possible" hypercalcaemia, if your blood levels are out of the normal range it is hypercalcaemia, the question is why and how are they going to sort it. Have they checked the PTH (parathyroid hormone) and vit D levels? And were you put on calcium and vit D supplements when you were put on pred originally?

Not what you're looking for?
