Hi all - me again, it seems that I now have diverticular disease to add to my collection, finally got a GP appt friday evenong. This is apparently another condition that is at least in part due to the effects of steroids and possibly also Omeprazole. The 2 drugs I cannot give up! I am so upset. I just hibernated yesterday.
So my question is - anyone else?? I seem to get all the side effects and its hell! My GP says that I am just particulalry sensitive to meds and that there are a few others like me. I wondered if any are on here?? Thanks Maggie x

Yes there are -sure they be along soon…there has been a bit of discussion in this recent post - although it wouldn’t have necessarily come up in the related posts. But as with many posts, different issues come up as the thread progresses -
You CAN give up the omeprazole - there are several other PPIs which have different side effects and there are also h2 antagonists which wrk in a totally different way.
However - there are studies that suggest that long term steroid use actually PROTECTS against developing colonic diverticulitis in Asians! How good a study it is I can't tell but it does suggest that there are a lot of factors including genetics and the cause is a complicated thing.
It has been suggested there is a link between thyroid disorders and diverticulitis and people with Raynauds are more likely to have inflammatory bowel disease. I don't think it is as simple as the pred or PPI.
Thank you. Yes, very helpful research but funny, maybe we have asian heritage, my brither had Berghers disease, an asian one!! ...I'm supposedly allergic to H2 antagonists ..., I could ask for a different PPI but should I add anything new atm?? Rhetorical Q!
I have had fourteen different side effects from pred. Some have gone away as I reduce. I am definitely sensitive to medicines including the Covid vaccine which really brought me to my knees!!
