Hello Folks

Someone I know has recommended I try acupuncture for my PMR. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have my doubts but willing to give it a try if there was a chance of some success.

Thank You

I have not tried it for PMR but have for back issues and leg pain...it was very effective. Also, just before my son's wedding 20+ years ago my femur cracked. I was NOT going to miss that wedding and had acupuncture which cut my pain and hip replacement right after. You have nothing to lose by trying it. good luck💞

I have tried accupuncture. It is not a cure, but for me it helped with the stiffness and pain. I attend ahead of important calendar dates in order to keep going for special occasions. It is important to choose the practioner wisely. I would not use a massage therapist or chiropractor who does this as a side line. I have found Chinese accupuncture to be the best for this illness.

I highly recommend accupuncture for relief.

I smiled when I read 'not a cure' because that is exactly what the Asian physician who did mine kept telling me before the wedding....I needed repair. I'd da you are making excellent use of the relief.💞

Thank you, I had a feeling it would not be a cure

I had two goes, it did not make a blind bit of difference, although I think some people said it helped a bit.

Thanks, I thought so.

I had a number of acupuncture sessions pre-diagnosis that did not one iota of good. It cost me a lot of money but the therapist got a lot of her chest regarding her elderly mother. It may work for you.

Doesn't sound promising.

Hi there, before I was diagnosed with PMR they didn't know what was wrong with me and I was referred to a Chiropractor who also did acupuncture, the treatment from the Chiro was very uncomfortable and painful and made no difference - He then tried acupuncture and this made no difference either. 😔

Hi not quite the same but I had a course of acupuncture while having very active PMR and sciatica. The acupuncture was amazing for the sciatica only 4 sessions over 2 weeks and completely went away. He also told me that he thought that I had very active osteoarthritis in my hips that I was unaware of. It turned out that he was completely correct confirmed soon after with x-ray. This devil of PMR is so difficult to manage with prednisolone masking while we are aging at the same time. I would say give it a go if nothing else it is very relaxing.

Good Luck whatever you decide x

Plenty of related posts to view…not sure it help with PMR as such…but maybe the odds and sods that go with it.

I agree. I wonder how many acupuncturists are knowledgeable in PMR 🤔.

If you decide on acupuncture, make sure you go to an experienced Chinese practitioner. My family and I have had wonderful results with one such practitioner. Unfortunately she retired and I made the

mistake of going to an English practitioner. I have never used acupuncture for PMR so I can’t help you there. The best of luck!

My practitioner is not Chinese, but she is educated in Chinese accupunture. Three years of training or more. The skill of the practitioner makes a huge difference.

I tried acupuncture on three or four occasions. It made absolutely no difference at all to my PMR.

That seens to be the general consensus.

Used it prior to other medications and it helped with the pain a bit and was great for other ailments.....but inflammation markers remained high so wouldn't recommend

PMR was diagnosed in July 2020 by GP and I went to see Acupuncturist about a month later. Described the pain areas and he hit bullseye 🎯 each time. 😣. I saw him about 3 times in all. The Acupuncture really relaxed me but had zero effect on the PMR. We’re all different - give it a go! 🍀

Honestly don't waist your money. If it's p.m.r. acupuncture won't help at all. Believe me. Been there, done that.

Sorry, but it's a fact of life.

I think one ‘clutches at straws’ in the first few weeks following PMR diagnosis … well I did.. and I thought it might help! However it didn’t, and I learned by experience!

You may find hot stone massage beneficial: gentle and very relaxing.

I had my second session for osteoarthritis in a knee. The first eased things considerably - the second has made it feel much worse - hot and swollen and hard to bear weight on again. Jury's out - I shall see the practitioner again but not sure I will continue with treatment
