We have a wonderful Reiki master in my town. I have never tried it but know of people who thinks it was very beneficial. I wondered if anyone has tried this? I can't do any kind of massage, so I thought I would give it a try. Nothing to lose but a little money.

Why not give it a whirl? If you benefit, go again. It isn’t heavy hands on, so you’re not going to get muscle pains. It may or may not be a miraculous cure for your ills but if you feel it touches you in a positive way then it’s a good thing as it all adds up.
Years ago I had bursitis in my shoulder or "mouse shoulder" as we all were calling it then, as my group was involved in a major project and was working 18-20 hours days 7 days a week for nearly a year.
When that was over, my Dear One & I took a long weekend in Florida in a town where one of hubby's dearest friends had moved. I went for a long swim in the Gulf, and wound up with an even more painful shoulder than I started with.
Our friend's new wife is very much into Reiki as a practitioner. Now I have to tell you I don't believe in this sort of thing at all, but after she begged me to let her try her magic on me. She never touched me, but boy that night it ached like mad. The next day, however, nothing. And the pain in my shoulder never came back, not even with PMR.
So from a non-believer, I'd say give it a shot.
As I always say - with complementary/alternative therapies the only way to find out is to try. One thing that works for me may not help you. But most things that help you relax may well be worth trying once or twice.
I tried reiki. Only did it once and it was pleasant. I think I would need multiple sessions to assess long term results. I tried lymphatic massage today. Again very pleasant. Hoping it feels good tomorrow.
I think you might find it quite comforting, it is gentle.
I love Reiki head massage. However when I had it with an alternative provider once it was way too heavy handed. Don't be afraid to tell your provider to ease off if you are feeling uncomfortable in any way. They will always adapt to suit you. I am a lover of massage! Very therapeutic! Enjoy!
I am confused methinks. I think the first two were Reiki since there wasn't touching involved. I then booked with a different provider, the 'heavier handed one' which was unexpected and more like Indian head massage, though I had booked Reiki. Sorry for any confusion.
Marilyn Reiki should not involve any form of touching , sounds more like an Indian head massage to me, don't know if I should add this to a post hear. but I am trained to do distant reiki , and am happy to do this for members of this wonderful group. I would just need you to send me a perhaps private message to agree and to this ,no charge I do because I want to …. and I get a lot of pleasure if it helps xx
Hi
Reiki can be hands on or off
However you can state hands off at the beginning if you like
Normally the Practitioner will just let thier hands deliver the energy to where its needed.
Even hands off at times can feel as if you are being touched
If you can do distant healing then you can also do reiki
Hi I am an unbeliever it didn't do anything for me. But I know people who think it does. Whatever, it is you time and with a good practitioner very relaxing. Give yourself time to think afterwards before signing up to expensive alt therapies. Anything that helps is helpful
I have always fascinated with the alternative to orthodox medicine , Just as a hobby I qualified as a Reiki Practitioner , Aromatherapist etc etc I can count on one hand the amount of times in 20 odd years I have just had to take meds... Until PMR set in now Preds sit at the top of the list.
because of past studies and contacts in alternative therapies I am very much aware of what is not advisable with PMR , or any other form of auto immune problem when taking steroids .
Any form of touch therapy , massage even Bowen , use of essential oils etc should be avoided .
I have a close friend who is a Bowen practitioner , her father also has PMR , her advice to me was not until I am at the stage where the preds are so low and the adrenal glands are trying to kick back in.
I did try reflexology asking the practitioner not to stimulate my adrenal glands, oo la I felt awful for days after that.
None touch therapies can help, Reiki healing and using crystal's to balance the Chakra's can be beneficial , but like every thing what works for one may not for another.
take care xx
Go for it , I'm lucky my sister-in-law is A Reiki master and just being in the same room with her helps me relax and she does A hands off session if someone is really in pain , she got me through my cancer op andrecovery X
I have tried it briefly many years ago and enjoyed it but never pursued it. Alternative therapy is good for the mind and body - just find the one for you - I do Tai Chi. Let us know how you get on.
