But we usually suggest using both in cooking rather than supplements…. But how much difference they make cannot advise, sorry

But you do need to check with other medication - if you are taking any…..Turmeric /PPI and Ginger/ blood thinning drugs.

Thank you! Yes, there doesn't seem to be much clarity on the dosage. Very much agree to be careful due to having too much could make other conditions/medication, worse!

I had friends with PMR who used both in cooking and swore they could tell the difference if they were away and they weren't added to their food.

The supplements tend to quite high dosage and a lot of people fid they upset their stomach and you need to check they don't interact with your medication - as DL says, anticoags for example. No need to do that if you are just using the real stuff in cooking.

Do they really help? No idea.

I use turmeric but I cook with it, also ginger even in drinks. A recent bit of research said that turmeric in capsule form was not as good as adding it to your food.

I’ve been taking it for about 12 yrs, Curcumin X4000, 800mg & I’m still not sure if it does any good. It didn’t stop me getting PMR in 2001. So I have been considering stopping taking it as it isn’t cheap, & will do so once I have finished the last pot. Anyone else have any info on it?

You might find out if it does anything when you stop!!

I might, but its effect might be unobserved, it could be that I’m less likely to have cancer or a heart attack. Anyway I’ve decided to wind it down as it didn’t stop my PMR & after reading the posts here the evidence it is useful appears slim.

It was suggested to me to take turmeric after I broke my wrist 9 years ago for arthritis type issues that may come along after. My Gastro Consultant was very pro turmeric too alongside vsl#3 probiotic powder.

I use ginger for bloating after eating. I used to have a real problem but take 2 ginger capsules after each meal and it works, not immediately, I think it took about 2 weeks. Now I rarely need to take them, but when I do, the effect is almost instant. They do make you burp though. They help with my palpitations too, as it's all connected with the vagus nerve.

I have taken turmeric and black pepper capsules daily for many years. I'm not sure it helps though. (I take it for joint pain, tendonitis mainly.)

Ginger tea after evening meal does similar job... but without the burping [for me anyway]
