off topic - three funerals and......a birth

like many of us here I’ve lost people dear to me. My step Dad AND Dad both passed away on 29th December, step Dad died in hospital aged 87, Daddy died at home aged 86. I’ve just got over the funerals and now my ex husband passed away on 17th February only 68. My sons are devastated losing three of the key figures in their life all at once. But there is always, hope, always joy, always a new day and my nephew has a new baby boy born yesterday to make us all smile a little. I’m sad my late brother won’t see his grandson but I feel that he and my Dad(S) will be smiling too.

On the subject of joy and happiness: if stress and worry affects our health can joy and happiness improve our health. It surely must.

Yes joy and happiness does improve health and mind…. And your family certainly deserves some at the moment.

I can remember the day when my hubby was given the news that he had terminal cancer and a few months to live - he was in a ward which overlooked a courtyard and on the opposite side was the maternity unit.

He said ‘that’s a reflection of life isn’t it, on one side there is sadness because of the news of the end of one life, but on the other side is the joy of a new one ‘

Enjoy the little one, and fitting it’s a boy. Take care.🌸

Yes, I agree with you. I find that I can do so much more when my grandchildren visit from Australia or we go there. They are the wonderful point of everything to me. My husband and I are the elders now and the four children are our chargers. Even photos or a bit of film can set me up for the day. I am sure pets, gardens, hobbies and interests also provide joy and purpose and give health and strength too.

Hi stillsdisease 😊

I’m sorry you and your family have had such a tough time 💐but am very pleased to hear you now have a little great nephew 😊 As you and others have said, it’s all a balance, isn’t it? A very good friend of mine died in January and I wasn’t sure I could cope with the grandchildren a few days after the funeral, at half term. But they came anyway, and I more or less coped. We do, don’t we? As SheffieldJane says, they are the light of my life.

Sending you hugs and every good wish for better times 🤗xx

I’m glad your grandchildren gave you joy, my own grandchildren delight me too. Children are a medicine in their own right really and this is acknowledged by schools taking little ones to visit the elderly in homes and the eyes of the elderly shine and their faces light up its like magic. My grandfather spent the last ten years of his life in a Wheelchair following a severe stroke and when I asked him if he resented those years he said “no, without them I’d never have seen my great grandchildren “.

A lovely post, stillsdisease 😊

I’m glad your grandfather was able to find the positive in his situation- and yes, children are to me a medicine in themselves 🥰xx
