Hi, I had a care needs assessment this morning because I’m very disabled with PMR/Ankylosing Spondylitis and degenerative disc disease and I don’t have any help currently.
During the assessment the nurse said that I would be referred for Physiotherapy. I’m wondering if physio is helpful for PMR? I can’t tolerate the steroids so I’m still in The agonising stage.
Thanks.

It may help, as long as your therapist is aware of the effect that PMR can have on muscles, and therefore isn't too ambitious with the exercises they expect you to be able to do.
Very much depends on the physiotherapist. Using the right techniques it can be of benefit in PMR in mobilising inflamed attachments. But repetitive exercises can be poison. They MUST know what they are doing and understand PMR. Many don't/
Agreeing with piglette - osteopaths have broad medical training and have more hands on time than NHS physios. Pyment per session may well vary in different areas.
I had physio before the PMR diagnosis. The dear girl gave me massages to loodsen up my hips and shoulders, apart from giving birth I don’t hink I have ever felt so much pain. So stay away from any hands on therapy! And no, it did not help. Neither did the excercises. Hope you have better luck.
It depends on the physio. Mine - like all here - knows exactly what PMR is and where the pitfalls lie. And she frequently does VERY hands on mobilisation which sometimes feels worse at the time but the end result is amazing.
