Vision reduction for hours

TheGreatPretender profile image

I have slowly reduced to 4mg for two weeks when for a few hours the distance vision in my right eye was out of focus. Mid distance and reading was not affected, anyone had a similar experience?

This needs to be checked out as a matter of urgency. It maybe a warning of impending GCA. I would be inclined to go to emergency care if it is the quickest way to obtain a full eye exam. Your eyesight could be at stake.

Hopefully it turns out to be something less serious like a Prednisalone side effect but we can’t take the risk.

Any vision effects must be checked out asap. In the UK use the MECS or UES services which are better than the GP or ED since they have all the requisite equipment for eye examination and will then refer you appropriately:

Is there a similar service in Wales?

I gave you the link so you could look it up for yourself - enter your postcode and it tells you where the nearest service is. This is the Welsh information page:

I should have said I am being seen and have had eye test. Some concern it may have been a TIA. Speaking to a consultant today. Thanks for the replies.

I searched using the link PMRPro provided and was seen by SpecSavers the next day. Extremely thorough exam (I was there for a good 2 hrs) and referred to my GP who packed me off to Eye Clinic where I’m currently under investigation. Not GCA, but something else, maybe inflammatory I think the eye specialist mentioned(?)

Get yourself checked, don’t delay!

Please do pursue this...as experts above explain its serious..I lost sight in right eye albeit only for 15 mins and was diagnosed with GCA and quick increase in Pred ...I was a fortunate one that didn't lose it for good! But now know thanks to this sight I increase if necessary...hope you get sorted and take care 💐
