Metoject and water intake.

Not sure if this is a silly question but do I need to increase my water intake when taking Methotrexate by Metoject. I know it goes straight into the bloodstream but I just want to be sure.

I have continued to drink plenty of water on my Metoject Days - the same as when l was on the tablets, sometimes as more tea 😉

It helps flush it through your system.

Thank you, I wondered if that was the case.

Look to the right of your screen for more posts and FAQs for Mrs Nails’ helpful post about Methotrexate.

What is your thinking behind needing extra hydration?

Jane it’s encouraged to help flush the Meds through helping eliminate side effects.

I did look on the accompanying leaflet but couldn’t see any info. about it.

It’s like many things - this information is gleaned from Excellent Consultants & Good Rheumatology Nurses.

I had a selection of Health Professionals over the years so gleaned a lot of info on MTX

You can always PM me if you have a MTX Question as l am not around the forum as much as l was (having a bed day today - painful shins 😖)

Methotrexate information is of general interest as it is often offered to PMR patients as a steroid sparer. Feel free to share your concerns widely.

As per Mrs. Nails advice early on I made sure to drink plenty of water the day of my injection of MTX.

My understanding is that subcutaneous injection (under the skin) means the medication is absorbed slower (up to 24 hours), as opposed to injecting directly into the vein (bloodstream). So best to drink more water for a full day/evening the day of injection.

Thank you for clarifying PMRCanada, I now understand the difference between a subcutaneous injection and an injection into the vein.

I have never done this, but I do keep hydrated anyway xx

I was advised to drink more on Methotrexate days to offset the nausea, and it certainly does help. If for any reason I don't get a chance to drink as much as I would like to on MTX day, I notice the difference.
