Very confusing

I stopped taking prednisone in Aug. after tests showed adrenals functioning, I had had a couple of bouts of vomiting and diarrhea after getting below the 3mg. level. and have had trouble with nausea from time to time since, Several weeks ago the nausea got worse and appetite went out the window. Dr. prescribed Omeprazole ( Prilosec I think) and Ondansetron. After a few days of not much relief I decided that it started with prednisone and maybe that's where I should go for relief. I took 5 mg, tapering daily to 1 which I am not taking and the nausea lifted enough for me to eat a bit more than I had been able to. My doctors know nothing about my taking more prednisone but I will have to confess eventually but in the mean time I am trying not to lose my weight. What do you experts think of all of this? Look forward to your opinion.

Your adrenal glands may be working and producing cortisol when prodded in the test - but it doesn't mean they are working perfectly and reliably in day to day life. Theory and practice can be well apart! I think you should probably have done the last mg or so much more slowly, really taking a long time to get off altogether.

How fast did you go down from 5mg to zero originally? Even after my Synacthen test showed a reasonable result at 1.5mg Pred I still had another 2 years waiting for reliable function. What they weren’t good at was sustaining a good production of cortisol of I was having prolonged stresses on the body. It could easily take the form of repeated poor night’s sleep, travel, worry, being too busy, illness, pain, too much exercise. Nausea and abdominal pain were the first signs.
