I'm having my second hip replacement this coming Saturday and wondering whether to increase Pred dose prior to it. I'm on 5mg (stayed there since May when I had the other hip done). I didn't increase it last time just took 5mg the morning of op and discussed hydrocortisone support with the anaesthetist. He gave me something similar during surgery and then visited me couple of times to make sure I felt OK, which I did. Thanks for your help as usual.

Increase Pred. before hip surgery?
As things worked out well for you last time, fingers crossed for the second op. The pre-op discussion will determine your needs. You will be a new woman.💃
As last time was okay very -I would follow same procedure -and good luck
Why do you think you need a different procedure to last time? Did you have a flare after the surgery?
Stay at 5mg. If your orthopaedic surgeon is anything like mine he will want you as low as possible!! He is a bit paranoid about steroids though.
I was on 5mg when I had my replacement in May. Anaesthetist didn't give me anything else and I was fine. Stayed on 5mg for about 6 weeks afterwards before reducing.
Can you tell me how long you waited for your first hip replacement? I am waiting for both my hips to be done and can barely put one foot in front of the other.
Hello sampete, I too would be waiting probably years for the NHS. We had a small medical insurance that we'd never used , 'a just in case'. I really thought it wouldn't cover hip replacements but it did! First one two weeks after seeing the surgeon, second booked in for 7 months later, and absolutely top class care and physio after care. It's with Aviva. I don't know your position, we keep getting flyers through the post cashing in on this and offering elective surgery at The Chiltern Hospital (where I'm being operated on). They offer monthly packages of about £360 a month + other expenses to do it. I do feel for you. Having PMR AND dodgy hips at the same time is very testing, weak muscles just add to the disability. The surgeon said my first hip was completely 'knackered' and wondered how I managed the pain. My second hip was going but went almost immediately after the first was done and I was trying to get walking again. I wish you a speedy solution, life is too short to be cripple.
