Pred affects glucose...what about thyroid?

i have been struggling to reduce my pred dose. Since I went from 22.5 to 20 every day has been different. The first day was ok. No real change. Then my pain was high....I was shakey, very tired/exhausted,efeated for the rest. Today my pain is a smidge better..but I am so tired. I have that out of gas feeling. So it occurred to me maybe others have Hashimoto's and had their levels tank because of pred. So I thought I would see what others have gone through. I already take two different doses of synthroid and I take T3. It usually stabilizes easily and stays at the level for quite a long time....but obviously things throw it out. With PMR it's hard to know what is what...but I hate feeling so tired.

thanks everyone. Be well.

You can get steroid withdrawal when you reduce. It starts quite quickly and can last a few days, then it goes away. Sadly fatigue is something associated with auto immune diseases.

I had Hashimotos before PMR and take levothyroxine - don’t think PMR affected it - GP said two or more auto immune conditions often occur at same time

Thanks Daffodilia...yeah I am lucky I have 5 autoimmune gigs going...lordy. I was thinking more about the prednisone making a difference. To be honest I am too tired to deal with a doc appt...trip to labs...so I thought I would start here to see what folks here have gone through....which sometimes is better than the docs....lol. Thank you for the reply. Be well.

Pred can affect TSH so that it looks OK when tested but actually you need a bit more thyroid medication. Convincing doctors is difficult though. A few doctors say they get get better management of PMR when they treat some patients as hypothyroid.

wow...ok. maybe I will push myself to go to my PC....he would top off my meds if I felt it might help after blood work of course. If it read ok but this feeling continues I think he would help. I will track it and see. Piglette mentioned the w/d of dropping the pred dose...which you had told me about...so it could be that...it's just been too many days I think. It takes a long time to sort out what things are and what feels like what.when you have so many competing conditions going on.

Thanks again. Be well.
