But by then I was past caring ! I'm having blood tests next week and have got an appointment with my Gp.have not had one in ages .my question is can this "Heatwave" be making it worse, I have just been talking with a friend and she tells me that my OA/RA can be made worse by the heat !I had know idea . Does it affect anyone else this way?TIA Viv 🌹
Tendinitis: Hi after my disastrous appointment... - PMRGCAuk
Tendinitis
Are you well-hydrated?
Tendinitis is often part of/found alongside PMR - it's a b*%%er, mine is just achilles in one leg, peroneal in the other but walking is a pain in every sense ...
I think so but I'll up my water see if it helps, not been in this much pain for ages and nothing is helping, in going to stay at home for awhile, hope you feel better .🌹
There was a post last time around about heat affecting illness…so yes - in OA it can affect the synovial fluid in joints…..can’t win can we?
This from t’internet -
“Temperature and humidity levels can change the level or thickness of fluid that fills your joints. Therefore, the synovial fluid in your joints can get inflamed due to weather. Your joints start feeling like they can't move as well or they're stiff.

I have tendonitis and I seem to feel worse as the temperature approaches 30°C.
Hi Viv - I’m off steroids now after 5 + years but have had awful tendinopathy problems. When I was told my pmr had ended I began having osteopathy for my poor swollen sore legs. The practitioner told me I had blockages in both ankles and started to pull my feet. Eventually there was a click but then pain in ankle esp at back and felt very hard. G.P referred me to a lower- limbs man who confirmed Achilles tendinitis. I had a procedure where a huge amount of saline was injected into the side of the ankle under pressure and I then had to wear a Beckham boot for 8 weeks!Thought it had helped but now 8 months on have pain again……was told bone marrow was a good Cure but very costly £3000 and not covered by insurance.I’m presently trying to avoid contacting the doctor again but fear I may have to. I would suggest wearing only shoes with very good soles to take pressure off Achilles and good support.
Good luck - I definitely find this hot weather greatly affects my legs — very swollen and sore.
Note my diagnosis is stills disease which manifests as RA for me.Heat above 25 degrees makes it all much worse especially the legs, swollen stiff and sore.
Look after yourself- it’s taken six years for me to accept my body will never be as it was. Had a very close friend of 40 yrs standing and one day she told me I’m fed up hearing about your problems. I haven’t seen her since and am now careful who I confide in. So hope you feel better soon. Textile work has kept me going. Where do you live?
Friend maybe not so close as you thought…sorry to hear her reaction. Many don’t understand…but …
Thank you for that. I was devastated and friends for so long and a pharmacist! Should know better.
Just to present the other side of the coin, I had a close friend of 30 years and we met once a week for shopping and dinner. She was always moaning about her terrible life. I was going through a bad time myself with all sorts of problems but I wanted to forget about them and enjoy my times with my friend. I eventually had to move away from her as she was stressing me out so much. Maybe your friend has her own problems too? Just a thought...
I agree - we never know what is truly going on with others . Mary infact lost her husband last year and has struggled but I had tried to support her. I had phoned to ask how she was and she was very negative- bad knee have you seen dr- no - what about physio - hasn’t helped osteopathy don’t believe in it. I really didn’t say much about me on this occasion.Next day an email. Fed up with your constant moaning- I now have few friends left- 2 have died. Early I’m 77.My husband age 79 a surveyor is still working full time exhausted so has little time to help or listen to me. 1 daughter in Aussie busy dr with 4 children other daughter lives in Hampstead but wants nothing to do with me and I only saw her 3 children as babies now 13 11 and 7. ( long story. )
The years of lockdown before lockdown with pmr were really hard and then lockdown.my legs have not allowed me to walk much and that was something most seemed to do and converse with friends wearing masks…. Have become almost hermit - like. Can’t believe how my energy levels and outlook have changed.
Thank you all
For you words of support. Really appreciate it.
Our situations sound very similar except I have no children or any relatives. I have lost at least 5 friends to cancer and one to MS. I am younger than you though but on my own with a working hubby who has his own health and family problems. So I do understand. I keep busy by decorating the house - in one hour long session per day, and reading emails and doing Facebook quizzes. I too can't walk much any more but I volunteer to help in the local meadow once a month and help to organise events for the Rotary club.Keep focused on what you can do and keep busy. That's how I cope.
Thank you for replying. I feel very alone often- my first husband died recently - refused treatment for acute anaemia and my younger daughter told her sister if mum comes to funeral tell her not to come near me!!, Good advice you give. You can always contact me if you need a moan x
Tendinitis is something I got regularly before PMR diagnosis and pred. Elbows, ankles, shoulder, knees. Luckily not all at the same time. One would clear up, then a couple of months later another one started. I never associated it with heat though. With the ankles I found a pair of shoes that had just the right heel height and made a huge difference.
Which make of shoes— I am trying to find summer shoes. My sandals don’t fit super swelling over top of feet and Achilles inflammation means most don’t fit at back.
They're Clarks sandals. I've had them for years though. They're very scruffy so I had stopped wearing them. They have velcro fastenings so very adjustable. I can't find any thr same but it's the heel height that's important.
