Wednesday, suddenly, my hip and leg gave way together. I struck the floor with a big bang. Broken hip! I've been in hospital since then and it's going to be a looong recovery!!! Just what I needed.

That happened to my father when he was 90. An emergency operation. He spent a couple of weeks in hospital, but then started to walk again.

Oh Constance - lots and lots of hugs! Is it a #NOF (the classic hip fracture) or the main bone? Surgery?

My neighbour, much younger than we are (even me) and fitter, slipped on her wet tiled floor while cooking lunch. I was horrified to realise I heard nothing - not even 7 medic-type people outside my door. She has probably smashed her shoulder and also done something with her hip.

I am taking GREAT care.

Oh, that's just not fair at all! Wishing you the speediest of recoveries and the mental wherewithal to hang in there while your body heals. My Mum had a fall and broke her hip in her 80s and made a full recovery, so it's definitely do-able. Good luck!

Dear Constance

I am so very sorry to hear about your broken hip, I hope that life becomes easier for you very soon. Something similar happened to me me a few weeks back but not my hip, I have been told that I have 2 fractures in my spine, L4 and L5 are the bits affected but it is very painful. My husband has Kidney Dialysis 3 times a week, (I am his carer!) So Monday, Wednesday and Friday are bit lonely. I have decided that I am going to read "The Chronicles of Narnia again. They are so absorbing and will help the time to go. (I have them on a Kindle). My very best wishes to you Mipole PS This is my first time to do a reply so I hope its okay!!

Oh Constance, that's a b*m*e*. Hopefully you'll be hobbling around more quickly than you think. My hip replacement is Ok and the other leg is holding out extremely well too so sending wishes for as speedier a recovery as I had. Do keep us informed, especially when you get fed up.

Sorry to hear this. Wish you well.This happened to me March 12 2021. I broke my femur next to hip replacement. A tip! Get them to investigate why your leg gave way. Mine turned out to be a heart problem and I suffered heart failure in hospital fortunately and they responded with CPR immediately. Months later I've had a defibrillator fitted in my shoulder, but muscle weakness has prevented me walking again and I have become a wheelchair user.

Omg that's terrible.I hope you re recovery is much quicker.Sometimes it is.My daughter's father in law is 88 and he fell the same way.He had surgery then physio.Hes up and around again.Hugs!

Oh Constance, such an unexpected event…I am so sorry you experienced this painful fall. Events like these leave a feeling of what will our bodies do next.? My mother shattered her femur into many proceed in her nineties and was walking like it never happened 3 months later! That’s rubbish. I slipped and fell last August and had a Nail inserted. My only advice is that it’s vital to get hold of the physio and practice it religiously if you want to walk normally again (and you will). I had to tell my brain that I could walk again and override the sense that I couldn’t put one foot in front of the other! Weird. The very best of luck xx
