To you all thank you for the support you afforded me. I have had a long chat with the pharmacist. She said (and I hope I understood correctly), that the steroids can deplete the serotonin and this can cause a variety of problems. I have been told NOT to decrease the steroids for now and to take martazapine. Hopefully this will rebalance me. If it wasn’t for the help and support I got here I wouldn’t have sought help. I can’t thank you all enough.

That’s interesting.
My OH ha d to go to GP in February, was awake all day and night for two weeks till he couldn't cope anymore, had a heavy feeling across his chest.(probably depressed, but won't admit it!)..he was prescribed Matarzapine 15 mg, to take before bed....sleep re stored, he was given them for 6 months, so taking a half now every other night in case they will be stopped. Hope it works for you too....Good luck.....
I've only just caught up with your post and glad you've had good advice and a listening ear from your pharmacist - they are invaluable!
I've had PMR for some years and 2 years ago became overwhelmed with those obsessive thoughts - after a very bumpy few months I was referred to a free online NHS site called Silver Cloud which is a series of very targeted modules to work through at your own pace with feedback from a trained therapist. It changed my focus and made me much more honest about myself after the usual 'I'm fine' approach to all and sundry. It was a turning point for me.
Maybe something to file away if you need it- but I hope you're on the way with your good advice so far.
I tried to PM you, but site won't let me!
Thank you Slowdown for suggesting this Silver Cloud programme, just quickly looked it up and realise it could be very helpful. Also , looking at your profile, see that we have lot in common I.e., living in Cornwall, I first was put on Prednisolone in October 2015 after realising the pain and symptoms I had been having for some considerable time and just assuming it was old age creeping up, went to Gp about it. Also have steroid induced diabetes as of last September. ( I try so hard at sticking to a low carb diet but just get sooooo fed up with everything, so attack chocolate stuff) .
Also have diverticulitis and try not to aggravate that, plus lots of others rubbish!
Sorry, I did try and private message you but probably like, you HU was having a nervous breakdown and would do anything.
Glad you’ve got the anti depressant. You don’t need to put up with those feelings if you can take something to help. Good luck with it but rest and treat yourself to ME time too. Because you’re worth it!!! X
