Covid infection

Well I guess it was bound to happen. Despite getting 4 shots, wearing my mask, staying away from public and endlessly washing my hands I got Covid. And while I'm still able to manage at home it's really done a number on me.

Oh I am sorry you are having a bad time with it. Hope you were able perhaps to get the antiviral ...what dose of prednisone are you on now. GET WELL. sending big healing to you! How long have you had it? Where in the US are you? perhaps I can bring a cup of tea!

Your so sweet. Tea sounds lovely. I live in Kansas. The absolute center of the US. I am no longer on prednisone because my PMR is in remission. But I've developed adrenal insufficiency so have had to double up on the steroids during this illness.

Tough luck -plenty of TLC required 🌸

Oh dear, these new variants are pretty frisky and just because they are labelled mild they are still very impolite. I know lots of people who felt it had done a number as you put it, so rest up and I hope you show it the door soon.

Hard luck!

It's doing a number on my 40+ year old daughter! Like her sister, no known Covid as a result of working as frontline healthcare staff but one probably got it second hand from a stag night and she got it at an outdoor beer festival! But judging by her symptoms she is now even more convinced she had it in February 2020 when an Italian colleague probably imported it as a result of her xmas visit home to family!

Get well soon!

What bad luck, do hope you feel much better very soon. Take care.

Oh no! What rotten news! Any idea how you got it? It’s raging everywhere, so worrisome. Get well fast!

I really don't. The CDC says any time from 5 days before symptoms to 15 days before symptoms.

Kansas has a high positivity rate right now. Lots of cases. Omicron’s incubation period is a bit shorter, 2-4 days, showing symptoms in 2-14 days. I’m in the northeast US and our numbers are finally trending down again. I wish you a quick and smooth recovery. Get lots of rest. The fatigue can linger even after you generally feel better, so say my relatives and friends.

I see very few people wearing maskes anymore. It's frustrating. But Kansas is a red state and there are a lot of Trumplicans in this town.

Oh no poor you, I hope you make a quick recovery.Im just waiting for my turn, after over 2 years locked away at home I have gone back to work for my local out of hours service as a home visiting clinician so its only a matter of time Im sure.

Good luck

I'm sure your right. I hope when it's your turn that your case is mild. I've heard of others getting it twice despite having the vaccine. Let's hope this is it for me.

My wife got it 12 days after our 4th shot of Pfizer. Same situation here, not going anywhere, always wearing a mask if running into a store etc. She and my granddaughter both got it. The other 3 of us in the house did not. Go figure. Crazy. We heard about the Pfizer pills that you need to get in the first 5-day window. She got them well into her 3rd day and her symptoms were like a head cold. No coughing, just blowing her nose as well as achy joints, sore hands. She may have had a headache. She gets them a lot all her lifeGood luck

I haven't heard of that. What country do you live in?

Amkoffee profile image
Amkoffee in reply tokewl1

I just Googled it. I sure wish I had known about it. With my medical history I'm sure I would have qualified but it's too late now. Fortunately, I never had to go to the hospital.

We live in Canada but also had not heard of it. I heard about it from a brother in the US who was two weeks into his second bout with covid. He said he missed the 5-day window for the pills and I asked "What pills?" I called the pharmacist who connected us with a doctor and we had the pills in 2 hours. Not many here in Canada know anything about these pills including a pharma rep I know. Crazy

We know about it (Paxlovid) in Nova Scotia but at the time my husband had covid it was like trying to get your hands on gold dust as you had to be approved. Apparently he was not but they did send him an oximeter and lots of advice! I didn't catch it. He probably got it from attending an indoor soccer match and not keeping his mask on 100% of the time as the team he helps manage had to forfeit the next match as so many of them were sick with covid. Took 12 days from first positive RAT to becoming negative again. And, Amkoffee , he felt pretty rotten for the first couple of days, but got better after that, although sleeping even more than usual. He was triple-Pfizered, and now has to wait for second booster on account of being sick. I have had my second booster and opted for Moderna.

I've heard of other people having problems getting it as well. I think at first maybe they had a limited supply although maybe they still do. My wife is 71 so perhaps that's how we got it so fast. The people know, that had the worst cases both in Canada and the States are people that only had 2 vaccinations. And both couples got covid twice and all 4 people appear to have long covid. I'm told that the third shot makes a big difference and the 4th may not make a huge difference over 3. But I'll take as many as they will give me.

My husband is nearly 80. He qualified on the basis of age alone. but I think he downplayed his symptoms when he was interviewed by public health. Seems like he's recovered, mostly, but there are some lingering after effects (pain in one leg, and a much crabbier personality). He seems better this week, though, more his old self.

kewl1 in reply toHeronNS

Oh, glad to hear he's doing better. This thing seems like it's never going away. I think I heard today that Trudeau has it for the second time.

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply tokewl1

Oh no. He didn't catch it when his wife was sick way back at the beginning (she brought it back from the UK) but I guess this omicron version is a whole other kettle of fish. Yes, as I type this it's on the 5 pm news....

kewl1 profile image
kewl1 in reply toHeronNS

I think I was thinking he had it previously but now that I recall maybe he just isolated once for 2 weeks because he was near someone who had it?

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply tokewl1

I opted for Moderna for second booster (4th dose) because it was a different vaccine than what I'd had previously. I agree, the law of diminishing returns had kicked in with Pfizer! Hopefully there will be omicron-specific versions available for next round of vaccinations.
