I was sitting in a chair and happened to look out of the window without moving my head so I looked sideways (left) with my eyes. There was double vision in the distance. If I closed either eye it disappeared. I took a few blinks to get things back to normal. I don't know if this has been there before though. Trying it a few times caused a slight ache around the eye. If I look right the same the effect is not so pronounced. I have a macular detachment in the left eye but it is not on the retina and stable last time it was tested. I have had lenses in both eyes replaced and have slight shadow (dysphotopsia?) which does not bother me.
Advice appreciated.

Just because we have a load of posts about double vision doesn't mean we know a lot about it other than it is a potential symptom for the autoimmune disorder some of us have so really not sure we can help you.
Probably something to ask your optometrist/optician?
I agree with the others, you need to visit a very well equipped optician who will refer you to an Opthalmologist if necessary. This could be a number of things, including GCA - so any more symptoms, treat it as an emergency and go to A&E.
Not sure if it’s what you mean but I can do that, the left being not so pronounced and I can’t do it one eyed. In the name of science I tried it a few times and my eye muscles ached afterwards. However, as always, get it checked.
Hi, omits. I had the same a year after PMR diagnosis and the double vision progressed quite quickly to when looking forward. It turned out to be sixth nerve palsy and was corrected by a prism lens on my glasses. You must get this checked out. I was seen in the rapid access clinic in the hospital rheumatology department as Giant Cell Arteritis was suspected. Better safe than sorry.
Thanks for the responses. I just been taking vitamin supps and had bright yellow wee so it may be a reaction to excess B vitamin. However I will follow this up. Not sure what PMR is and not defined here. Thanks.
I developed double vision overnight about 6 months into my PMR diagnosis. I have an excellent optician and was examined the same day then prescribed prisms in both lenses to correct this. No problems since🤞 The most annoying thing was that I’d had cataract surgery in both eyes about a year previously and had such good vision I could even read without glasses but now have to wear them all the time!!
Mine was due to stressA few years before pmr, in stressful times, I had double vision plus one eye shot inward. Was under hospital for 6 weeks. Tests showed no problems. I carried on with eye patch, could even drive!! Had to rest. Hosp said it was caused by stress. It righted itself!! 3 yr ago while on pred, had double vision that lasted 3 days. Knew it was stress so just waited for it to go away. Horrible while it lasted. This may or may not be of interest. Good luck with your journey.
Many thanks all. I have checked again this morning and see that both directions if I try to look at say 45deg then things go double. I have no other symptoms. I think it's called a squint. I guess I will need to get an eye test or what?
Like others have said, you need to get it checked. I have had double vision for a few years but it's been getting much worse, making it difficult to read. Have just found a new Opthalmologist who, as well as looking at the usual tests, spent a lot of time checking my eye movements, right to left and back, up to down and back, as well as also looking from corner to corner of the room. She said I had a weak muscle in my right eye and that my eyes were looking in different directions. She then used a prism with my weak eye, using different prisms till both my eyes were looking in the same direction. I was amazed. Since this problem has been getting worse, I've seen two Opthalmologists and three optometrists, but the others just did the basic test and the problem wasn't identified. Good luck.
Yes, I rang the Hosp as I was already on 6mnth watch for a detachment in one eye and going in next week to get both checked out. Not having forward vision problems just anything beyond say 30deg. Will report back.
