Fatigue with PMR

I've recently been diagnosed with PMR. Steroids are working well , 15mg daily but I am exhausted. My consultant said it is likely to be the PMR, has anyone else experienced this and will it settle? I had a Mastectomy and reconstruction in June 2019 and occasionally get fatigue days as a result. This is a whole new level though

Almost everyone experiences fatigue - it is an almost inevitable part of autoimmune disorders. PMR doses of pred don't usually provide the pred boost that makes you think you have wings but it is a false friend if it does.

This post has some links you may find useful - it really is all about lifestyle adjustments and pacing:

PMR is life changing, so you have to remember you have an illness. If you try and overdo things PMR will win. Fatigue is one of the symptoms of PMR.

Yeah, I think isn't something we've all had to get used to. And I know some of us were very active before this hit. Personally, it seems like it took me forever to get it through my thick head that I can't do the things I used to, and that tired is the new normal.

So helpful and good to know I am not alone !

Oh no - on this forum you are never alone! Nor are you alone in pretty much any problem you experience with PMR/GCA, someone will have been there at some point.

That's what this forum is all about. PMR and GCA are such strange - and uncommon - illnesses. Sometimes, even when there isn't any real solution, it's just good to know that someone is in the same boat as you, and rowing in the same direction.

You’re right about fatigue being a whole new level. Just go with it. Go lie down. If you sleep then great. I’ve slept mor this last 18 months than in my life!! Keep reading on here and consider dr Kate Gilbert’s book. Also read about having spoons for energy. I now use it all the time and my hubby gets it!! Good luck.

I took an afternoon nap every day for the first four months. I can make it through the day now but still realizing what I can and can't do after a year. This place is the real lifesaver!

Hi Jigsawlass

I had a day this week when I came over extremely exhausted. It is definitely PMR. I am not very good at resting, but am trying to learn and listen to my body. When you need to rest, you just have to rest.

I was diagnosed last August. Fatigue has been a big part if it - not just physical but a terrible kind of inertia too. The biggest change I made was to diet - on the Zoe app's advice I cut out sugar in all forms & white flour and after three days I felt and still feel very much better: renewed energy, better sleep and less pmr pain. This was 3 weeks or so ago & I'm hoping it will be a lasting effect

Did that include fruit?

Limiting fruit is quite important if you want to be low carb. It is a common fault - people say they aren't losing weight and ut us because they are eating healthy fruit. Unfortunately, fructose (fruit sugar) is a carb ...
