Strange business this pred drug. (Another Rant 😤)

As I see it doctors seam wired with it. Docs seam frightened to death with side effects. It’s a shame really as to me it is a inexpensive wonder drug .

There are lots of drugs far far worse, that know one gives an hoot about,we all know lots.

We could do with a protest March / demo . Two really bad ones is beer & cigarettes 😵‍💫😫🧐 terrible .the amount of people that kills the sens with em

I also think Aspirin is another wonderful drug ,I’ve tacken it now for nearly 50yrs .Ha but that causes bleeding of the stomach 🤷🏽‍♂️They say but is it not easy to monitor. Or would I rather have a stoke 🧐 thank goodness we can get that over counter. But they try to make us feel bad about it ,only buy a few at a time with a lecture about it 😤 .

But I don’t feel I have done too badly at looking after myself , still enjoying playing badminton and table tennis at 83 . But also feel lucky.

Sorry about ear bending but great to get it off mi chest.

I suppose most of us feel like this at times .

Another wonderful drug , Cannabis,😱 monited with good sense could help a lot of us , but it as been demonised 🤷🏽‍♂️ no where near as tobacco and booze

That’s it nuff said

Best of luck to you all 🍀🍀🍀🍀

I agree with you. The side effects listed in so called steroid sparers are horrendous. However, I can’t feel the steroid damage - high blood pressure, raised blood sugar and cataracts.

I find cannabis oil very helpful , it helps with the terrible fatigue I get .

Hi Ronzy, agree with you regarding prednisone and aspirin. Docs get their knickers twisted about these simple, cheap and time tested drugs...but hand out dozens of latest pharmaceutical wonder drugs that cost hundreds (thousands) of dollars per prescription, and with no where near the time -tested efficacy of our old stand-by drugs. My personal example is receiving a prescription for Xeralta to counter Covid pulmonary embolism. Lovely presentation in the "starter pack", at the cost of $1200 for 30 days. Seems to me that old drugs Coumadin and warfarin, cheap and time tested, would have been equally effective, and would not be costing me $7200 for the 6 months I need to take. And don't get me started on aspirin, which I have used without adverse reaction for 70 years.

Enough of my rant this lovely February morning.

Stay well, J

Not sure how it works in the US - but apparently here the NOACs like Xeralta pay for themselves compared to warfarin in about 10 months because of less healthcare professional time being required. And there is the USP of "no monitoring required" that makes patients think it is wonderful!

Mind you - once they experience a bleeding event due to raised blood evels not being noticed both the financial saving AND patient pleasure is up the creek!! They KNOW that monitoring would reduce the bleeding events drastically! OH wasn't having it - back to warfarin! Cost us a small fortune to be able to check the INR at home but it was probably worth it.

I think you are spot on with that response. Docs are like kids on the playground with new drugs, handing them out like lollies and discounting the cheap old time-tested remedies. I take this new anti-coagulant with trepidation, daily. Hoping I don't have a trip/ fall with head / TBI bleed, since the damm stuff doesn't have the rapid reversal antidote that old anti coagulant drugs have. Enough my rant this morning. Stay well, J

When I started on one instead of warfarin (INR was swinging about like mad) the doctor offered me a choice: once daily or twice daily - obviously 2x daily is safer but it also came with the promise of an already existing antidote!!! 2x daily was worth it. Later I played along with the head of the lab as we did a little experiment and established a) I didn't need the 150mg dose, it was too much and b) I must NOT take it at the same time as another cardiac drug as that sent the level far higher. It was his specialist subject - and he had made sure all of them could be measured in our hospital. The surgeons told us that most patients on them needed to stop several days before surgery to get the level down. But I got hell from one of the cardiologists here for missing a couple of doses before a procedure. If only they all sang from the same hymnsheet ;;;
