Used to do similar at the end of every Yoga lesson to completely relax - way before I had GCA. Certainly worked well for some members- you could hear the snoring!

Teacher roused us after 5 minutes.

Seems to have stuck with me - apart for a few months during GCA high doses.

It occurred to me that the technique of concentrating on something which requires thought (like a puzzle, or listing something) but is slightly boring, is doing the same thing with the brain as this recommendation to relax through visualization. Certainly beats lying awake with thoughts going around and around like a squirrel in a cage!

“beats lying awake with thoughts going around and around like a squirrel in a cage!” …Or as my hubby used to say - “mind going round like a heap of maggots!”…

think I prefer squirrels…. 🙄

I can go to sleep in front of the TV in seconds. Although I only sleep for a few minutes. Once I get to bed I wake up! Before steroids I could go to sleep pretty well immediately when I went to bed.

Most of my life I would lie awake for quite a while before falling asleep. As a small child, even a young adult, I'd make up stories. That kind of ended when I had children. Think I slept then because of exhaustion. Then when they were older and I was middle aged I spent many hours awake at night, or getting up and reading, and it was with PMR and calcium supplements that I began to sleep much better! It is the calcium. I've noticed now that I don't take calcium until later (used to take some with supper) I no longer habitually fall asleep in front of the tv just at the moment the culprit is to be revealed, etc, and if I forget to take calcium at all, or too late because of pred dose at midnight, I do have more trouble falling asleep.

🤣 I habitually have to rewind the last few minutes next day to find out who dunnit!

I frequently start to doze on the sofa around 8pm too, but never actually drop off to sleep!.... unlike my husband who can nod off in seconds and be snoring within minutes...and..... can sleep laid out on living room floor, propped up on one elbow and without toppling over! Don't know how he does it!

My hubby is a bit of a champion napper too. In fact I think he's sleeping off his walk at the moment! I don't know how they do it either.

As I said in another thread, my late hubby was in HM Forces so could fall asleep on a washing line! So there might be something in the thinking of lying in a hammock as stated in the video! 😊

My dad used to have a hammock between two plum trees in his garden. It was sheer bliss to just lie in it and feel the gentle swaying movement. Soooo relaxing.

Rings lots of bells as a qualified hypnotherapist. Relax from the top of the head, through to the tips of the toes. Plus deep diagraphamatic breathing.

Thanks HeronNS, my father, ex WW2 artillery, explained this technique to me when I was a teenager. I had forgotten and after a horrible night of broken sleep, I'm going to give it a go tonight!

Falling asleep is an issue for so many, this sounds helpful and I have shared the link. I jump, well sit, on the edge of the bed, put my CPAP mask on, pull a pillow down to my side....and I'm gone for hours. I pretend my mask is nitrous oxide gas....JUST KIDDING, That is just one area I have not had a problem,💖
