Hope they help. I really couldn't cope without mine and have been on them a long time. Occasionally I come off for a few nights to get them out of system and of course get rebound insomnia but it's worth it as I find they kick in again. Some like to take every 3rd night but apart from rest period I described I am every night girl.

Sleep very important rto pain and mood. 💤💤💤💤💤

Hi Rosebud, it's 2:45 am, and I join you, sleepless. I am at year 4 with PMR, and down to 5 mg pred, again.

I've tried to reframe my sleepless nights as gifts of free time, to read, listen to gentle music, and to chat with fellow PMR/GCA travelers. These are things I don't often do during the day, so I let myself enjoy getting out of bed ( rather than flop about and be annoyed at no sleep).

I've discovered that a cup of warm milk with a dab of vanilla and some honey, sometimes acts like a soothing elixir and leads me back to sleep. Other times, I just snuggle back abed with a nice little "cozy" mystery story, and read till I fall asleep again.

Always, I recomend a day time nap, 1 hour or less, with an alarm. The alarm lets me fall asleep without worrying I will sleep so long it interferes with night-time sleep.

Kind regards, from one owl to another🦉

For a few years the warm milk and a banana was My night time snack but too.much sugar now. But the tryptophan helps with sleep. Perhaps if meat eater a slice of Turkey might help too.🦃

I'm sure she will comment - but one lady has found that she sleeps since she started taking her calcium supplement with a snack before bed!

I have taken some of my calcium at bedtime for quite awhile as I heard it helped sleep. I'm now on 8 mg prednisone and, only once in awhile I will have a problem sleeping. But on higher doses, I really had a problem.

I know we don't want to take any more medication, but I found the only thing that helps me to sleep is Amitriptyline which also seems to help some of the pain. If I forget to take it one evening then I don't sleep much at all. Before Pred. I was a wonderful sleeper- I hope I can go back to that when I'm off the Pred.

You would be far better posting this as a new thread - not a lot of people will see things posted in the middle of a thread like this.

I have amitryptilline as well. It's super for pain relief and inducing sleep....

Hi rose1bud

I take zopiclone which is same drug at 11mg...and amitrypiline at 40mg. I was on 30mg of amitryp but still had a bit of spasming so doc put up to 40mg. Usually start on 10mg. It is extremely low dose compared to when used for original mental health issues. I have no side effects that I know of.

I think you.mentioned taking a half of a sleeping tablet tonight. I think that's a good idea so you can see how it effects you. Hope you get some sleep. It takes my dose about an hour or just more to kick in but I seem to have high tolerance to them!!
