I am very tired Uglow. Think it’s perhaps cold weather etc, plus birth of grandchild….,I feel physically tired, but think some of it may be psychological 😊

I hope everything went well! I missed the post if you announced the birth I think. What did you have? Is it wonderful and exhausting all at the same time? I gave myself dreadful sciatica, trying to be the perfect nursery maid, boy it was hard but I adore being a granny and miss my 4 every day! ( Australia).

Hi SJ 😊

Not sure I announced the birth as such but it’s there somewhere in a recent post!

Actually it’s been a rollercoaster ride since then - hubby had an infection and spent night in hospital (dramatic at the time, they thought he was having a stroke, thankfully he wasn’t). Plus little granddaughter, still only two weeks old, has spent five days in hospital with meningitis- viral thankfully, as it’s ‘better’ than bacterial. Daughter and son in law naturally distraught, we’ve helped as far as we can.

Frankly I’m kind of on my knees…..

Thanks for asking xx

PS I meant to say, I too adore being a granny 🥰

I am so sorry that you’ve had all this worry and so much work. I had my 3 year old grandson for 2 weeks whilst his mummy was in hospital with his new born brother, who had some issues at birth. So I understand some of what you are going through. An agonising time but one filled with love and a very special bond with Theo that endures until today.

I hope that your husband has made a full recovery.

So sorry to hear of your granddaughter being ill.

I had viral meningitis in 2013 and found this charity to be of enormous benefit and support

meningitisnow.org/

Their website is very informative and there's a hotline you can call for advice and support, which also extends to some forms of financial support. It might be a good form of support for you all, especially post discharge, as the hospital doctors in my opinion aren't as well informed about viral meningitis as they are with bacterial.

Try not to worry (famous last words) as although recovery can be slow, at least with adults, the vast majority make a good recovery.

Wishing you all the best 💐

That’s so kind of you Hoofprints 😊

We are at the stage of being relieved that the baby (still only 17 days old) has been discharged from hospital, and seems to be feeding better and is more responsive. I’m sure it’s not quite the end of the story though - I’ll take a look at that website.

I’m glad you seem to have recovered well, and thank you for your reassurance xx

You are most welcome. Can only imagine how awful it is where a child is concerned.

Don't hesitate to go back to the hospital if you have any worries about the baby- as the website will tell you, time is of the essence and you are not being a problem or nuisance by checking the baby out again, or whatever number of times you are concerned. Always be sure.

And the charity can give you advice on follow up medical care e.g getting hearing checked etc. that might sometimes get missed, especially in the time of COVID.

Many good wishes sent your way 💐💐💐

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently, Uglow?

If you look at your pattern of sleep and wakeful nights you may find that your system is trying to catch up. Mine does if I just have patience there is a pattern, like so may things the body tries to fix itself. I would be inclined to give into it and hibernate like the bears do. If this doesn’t seem to fit. Get things checked out by your GP, like blood pressure, vit deficiency anaemia, adrenaline etc.

Are you taking vitamin D? If not have you had a blood test to check your level?

Routine Vit D tests are not allowed on the NHS. My GP said she would have to tell lies for her to prescribe one for me. Went private, cost £30.

That is a new one - the NHS lab that offers it privately also does the NHS testing - and I would want to know the grounds for your practice's refusal. If it is because they claim it costs £200 as one practice did, they need disillusioning! However, I DO know there are problems with far too many people demanding it because of the hype of low vit D being involved in Covid so, like everything else to do with Covid, we are probably suffering s a result. However - ours should be done as a rule-out as low vit D also causes PMR-type symptoms.

It is because lots of people were requesting them a few years ago because of public hype over bone density and it was costing the NHS tens of millions and the cost/benefit was very poor. Guidance says that specific medical criteria have to be fulfilled for a test and I didn't fulfil them. I had my test done by the organisation recommended by yourself. LBM1953

How did your GP appointment go? I thought he would give you something to help your problems …if he did, the tablets may be making you drowsy? I remember a lot of posts just before you went to see him. Duh, sorry, just read nothing is different! I think fatigue is one of the main symptoms that we all suffer from…in different ways. Perhaps it’s time to contact your GP again? I agree with those above, get things checked out!
