My Rheumy started me on Etoricixib and it gave me awful gastritis, so stopped the drug and it settled almost back to normal then one day I took a Neurofen and it set me back - awful taste in my mouth, can’t eat much - have been put on Famotidine but no help-I had HPylori a few years ago and it feels like that-Am down to 2 mg of Pred now and not too bad PMR wise
Any tips welcome! And a happy new year to everyone!!

WHY did the rheumy start you on a cox-inhibitor? It sounds as if the damage has been done, the ibuprofen has just made it worse and you need a GI doc for an opinion. Have you tried something like Gaviscon to see if that would protect the damaged areas better than just stopping acid production?
You'll know the process for HPylori - if it feels like last time, they should be organising the testing to rule it in or out as an option.
Thanks who knows why he started that he thought it would help me get off steroids!!but feel worse nowYes taking Gaviscon and tried Omeprazole but it didn’t suit me so have just started Famotidine and have sent in a sample for hpylori
Oh good - because that is the obvious question isn't it? One day we will get through to them that you are more likely to cause problems with NSAIDs and COX inhibitors than help any PMR pain ...
I was diagnosed with gastritis a good few years ago, as well as diverticulitis. For a while I took the medication but it wasn't helping much. I decided to try 3 x probiotic pills a day (Healthspan) and the problem went away. When I was diagnosed with PMR in August 2020 and put on prednisolone I decided to start taking goat's kefir as well. This has helped tremendously. I get the occasional flare from time to time usually after eating out but nothing like I had before.
