Any chance it’s because when you are cold you adopt a stiff posture form that your neck hates? For example, sinking neck between shoulders and head either with chin cocked up or down in a way you wouldn’t when you are in the warm?

I find even if I am wrapped up like an Eskimo the cold wind makes me hunch when I don’t need to

Amazon has a dazzling array of heatable neck wraps. I wonder if this sort of thing would provide some comfort and relief, When out and about?Specialist healthcare companies might be even better.

The cold will also make the mucles harder as the blood circulation shuts down to protect the internal organs - get a scarf and body warmer out!!! My husband always complained about the cold but wouldn't wear a decent set of cold weather layers!

I have a real Dr Who scarf, umpteen feet long, long enough to wrap all the way round as well as hang down. The loop around my neck is kept close when it is really cold, and I loosen it as the temp rises - or if I have to go inside shops and so on. really makes a difference!

I am another one who is rarely without a scarf in winter, indoors and out 😊 Makes a huge difference to my comfort level x

I'm using two at present - a little one inside my coat collar and the other on top. But then, it hasn't been above freezing for a week, -8C this lunchtime, but it doesn't feel like it!

I like going for an early afternoon walk - makes me feel warmer in the house until the heating comes on for the evening ;)

Here in the UK I'd be frozen if the heating didn't come on till the evening. Brhhhh!

No draughts in this house!!! You CAN feel air movement across the double glazed windows and doors but putting the external blinds down and drawing the net curtains helps that too. We used to just have frost protection on when we weren't living here and would arrive for xmas and the room temp by the windows was still an almost acceptable 14C. I had no heating on in my rooms until mid October - they hadn't put the central boiler on. OH had an electric oil-filled radiator in his little room.

😟 It must have been a very difficult time for you in catering for all your husband's needs. From what I've learned about you here you will have been a great support and having your well-qualified daughters finally with you to offer all their expertise and practical help a huge comfort. A caring family is a blessing.

No, the girls returned home 6 days after he died - they both work in the NHS, one in Scotland and one in England. It is absolutely manic in their departments - they are needed there far more than I need them here.
