Damn PMR. I am due to get Moderna booster next week but am reading it is not a good idea if I am on Prednisone. Won't be effective. I will be tapered to 12 mg from 15 mg by then because of a flair. Anyone get Moderna while on Prednisone?

Had three jabs of Phizer now without side effects. Worst effect is from the infusions for my melanoma cancer. It pumps up my immune system to try and cure the cancer but in turn my PMR is spiked up as well. Currently struggling to keep it at 5mg twice a day but I think I may need more and that’s not good for the anti cancer stuff. Too much will nullify the effects of the infusion. Tricky times

Won’t be as effective as for somebody not on Pred, but still required..

I was given Moderna while on pred and have just had a Pfizer booster - I don't assume that I am immune. I continue with wearing a mask and distancing - measures that are equally important. The vaccine is only part of the solution.

There is no evidence that you will not develop immunity while on pred, many people HAVE had measurable antibodies and studies have found that most immunosuppresed vulnerable people DO develop decent antibody responses to a third jab. All you can do is take all the vaccines you are offered and continue with what you have been doing for the last 2 years.

Yes and had no problens, the booster gave me a sore arm and a headache for 24 hours then both disappeared. The worst sore arm was the shingles vaccine, the Moderna was a piece of cake.

Had the Moderna on Monday. Promptly fell asleep when I got home and had a sore arm but that’s all. No guarantee on immunity but must be taken in my view.

My rheumatologist, whom I trust, told me I needed to be under 20mg prednisone and “the lower, the better” before taking the booster from any company. I didn’t ask, but assume that this applies to the flu shot, too.

I have just written a reply ( similar to the one I did for the 3rd primary vaccine post) but i appear to have lost it - summary is ' you need a 3rd jab not a booster if you were on 20mg plus at 2nd jab - fight for it through your surgery - I don't think it is supposed to be moderna - I had 2 astra and a pfizer
