So went from Pred 2 mg to 6 mg today and feeling a bit better already -should I stay at 6 for about 5 days and then go to 4 or 5?
Seeing Rheumy next week, he wanted me to try Plaquenil which had a bad effect on me, felt v nauseated so stopped it.Am sure MTX will be next advised as my Dexa shows osteoporosis

…and if you are flaring too often, perhaps you should consider your tapering regime…a slow taper - this is just one example and only 0.5mg each time - if you aren’t already -
You’re not a failure, we all feel like that sometimes……but you need to do things at your pace, and to suit your illness….it’s not an exact science. Get yourself back on track dose-wise, and then take it from there.
Oh bakingD, you are not a failure!!! I’ve felt like that myself sometimes, I’m sure most of us have, but really you’re having to contend with an unpredictable and insidious illness. It’s tricky and demanding of your physical, mental and emotional energy, but you will get better. Do follow the excellent advice here and take care of yourself 😊 Hugs x
Your plan sounds sensible. I hope it’s successful. It is concerning that you’ve had several flares. Perhaps you have, understandably, tried to taper too quickly? Especially as you have osteoporosis. 5 mgs is pretty negligible for serious side effects. Perhaps give yourself a little holiday there for a few weeks? Then when things are settled start to creep down 0.5 mgs at at time. Use a sharp pill cutter for the half a mg. Run this past your Rheumatologist. This may obviate the necessity ( case ) for MTX.

If you can't see her post, click on 'members' at the top of your screen and put her name in the search bar and you will find the post.If it isn't absolutely necessary that you take medication, you could ask your rheumy if he would agree to you trying more natural methods. You would have to be disciplined in your attempts to help yourself in this way.
There are people here who are on methotrexate: hopefully someone will be along with personal knowledge of the drug.
