Surprise surprise

Hi everyone,

I’ve just had a call from my doctors, they have booked me in for Saturday to have 3 vaccine, hoorah I hear you all say, no, when I asked the receptionist if it really was a 3rd vaccine and not a booster he said they are all the same, I give up. I’m going anyway as he told me I will need a booster in 6 months.

It strikes me as the nhs need to clarify these vaccines and fast, otherwise there is going to be a lot of very ill people with covid 19 who are clinically vulnerable not getting the correct dose of vaccine .

I’ve had a call to have my third jab but have already had a booster as they didn’t know about third jab! Trying to find out what to do next. Anyone else in this situation

You will need another booster in 6 months from now. The contents of all the jabs are the same.

I thought you’d know! Thank you. The poor receptionists at the doctors still don’t understand the “third” jab.

I have had a text re my 3rd jab but as I was on 5mg when I had my first jabs I don’t think I am really included in this. Speaking to a doctor on Monday re my blood pressure so will ask her about it

Well, I've heard of 3rd jab and 4th booster but never a 34d jab???🤷‍♀️

I’m the same 5mg which I believe is considered low so hopefully all will be ok. Let me know what your doc thinks on Monday. I decided not to bother my GP as can’t do much now I’ve had the booster

I then had a text from my surgery asking me to book an appointment for my third jab

I am on 4.5 but GP made appointment for my 3rd jab. They seem to know here what they are doing

Finally you had someone who understands! The jabs ARE the same, only the name has been changed to confuse the innocent as the IT software can't cope with the terminology which is part of the problem. You have had a third jab because you were immunocompromised - and need a 4th/booster in 6 months time.

Spot on. Just had my 3rd and flu jab booster in 6 months. Asked about different jabs doc said all same.

Hello,I've just replied to the next poster Viveka.

I too had a text today saying I should have third covid vac as I'm immuno compromised, and should phone gp if I haven't already got an appointment for third covid vac.

So I phoned gp.

Reception didn't know, but put me through to their admin dept.

Helpful admin person said they had just received this info and list, and were just printing a letter for me, inviting me to book third jab.

Then I should have fourth jab six months later.

I'm across the pond in Indiana. My rheumatologist and internist said...get the 'booster'. I'd received Moderna in January and February. Most drugstores are dispensing it here and so simply walked in, said I was immunocompromised, showed my vaccine record, and got an injection. Now when they talk about the booster for Moderna here, they are giving half-shots. I'm not sure what I got; full shot or half...no matter I am supposed to get another in six months anyway.

They, Wahington DC, is supposed to announce in the next few days {?} if people can mix vaccines, ie get Moderna if you had Pfizer to start. ?? Have they made a decision on that in the UK yet? Our big problem here is people NOT wanting to vaccinate.

H Grammy, I’ve now got to point where I’m beyond caring, it’s just too much of a fight to get a straight answer, there seems to be so much confusion over the vaccine.

I’m getting a jab tomorrow, who knows what it will be, I’ve been told it must be Pfizer, I’ve had 2 AZ 6 months ago. What I have been told is I need to get a booster in 6 months.

It seems you have a much easier time in getting your vaccine.

I really can’t understand why people are still not being vaccinated out of choice, it’s crazy, what on earth do they think is going to happen. I bet if they were travelling and needed to get certain vaccine they would get them so why not the covid 19 vaccine?

Xx

Agree totally, when I was growing up you just 'got your vaccinations' whether it was smallpox, measles, mumps or polio. You did it...over here it is just a political football. I'll bet money that even the naysayers have their family vaccinated. However, I believe the last statistic in the States was 46,000,000 NOT jabbed. How do you manage Covid with those numbers? You don't. 💖

in reply toGrammy80

I’m going to controversially say it should be compulsory EXCEPT in extreme medical cases. Everyone was very happy when smallpox was eradicated……

Yes, I agree. I had a text from NHS/vaccine saying to contact GP as I probably need a 3rd jab. When I phoned the surgery they had no idea what I was talking about, just repeating they don't do Coved jabs there and go to Boots! I think I only need the nod from GP to say I need it, then I can go to an access centre. I'm not holding out much hope of getting any further today!

Keep fighting it, you will get there, if you just book a booster you won’t be able to get booster in 6 months.☘️Xx

I have to speak to my rheumy nurse today, so I'll mention it to her. Hopefully she'll sort it or prompt GP what they need to do!

They are the same in terms of the dose you are receiving, they just have different names on your record so that it will flag up in 6 months time that you will need a booster after your 3rd jab.

I was told to tell the clinician that I was to have 3rd not a booster. They seem to know all about it as does my surgery who booked the appointment for the 3rd not booster.

I got a text message from the NHS saying to book a “booster” shot which I did. I asked the nurse giving me the shot at the clinic about the dosage and she said it was the same dose of Pfizer as I had had before. I then spoke to the nurse at my doctor’s (who was giving me an asthma check-up) about the difference between “booster” and “third vaccination” and she said they were one and the same thing. Now I have had a text from the surgery saying I should book for a “third vaccination”! All very confusing, I have to say.

I agree that GP's and other Primary Care personnel don't seem to be up to speed. There is too much information out there and some of the recent info contradicts previous advice, due to the latest research. I read that the "3rd" jabs for immunocompromised people must be of a different vaccine from the first two, but that normal "booster" shots may be the same or may be different, depending on what is available. Then I read that neither of these can be AZ but must be either Pfizer or Moderna.

I had a text asking me to discuss with my GP whether I should have a "3rd jab" as I "may be immunocompromised". It is more than 6 months since I had my second jab. I am on only 1mg Pred per day. I have taken part in the Covidence Study. I've had two antibody tests (from finger prick and blood drop), the first last year before I had any jabs, the second in June this year after my second jab. The first was negative and the second positive.

In the absence of anything definitive from my GP, I am simply going to wait to be called for my "booster". My OH (aged 77) has now been called by email, but at 73 I am still waiting. I suspect this varies across the country.

thank you everyone for clarifying this . I have had a letter from NHS asking me to speak with my GP as soon as possible to discuss whether I would benefit from the third vaccine at this stage I also got a text advising the same . I then got a text from GP practice presumably by passing the GP or deciding that I don't need to consult advising me to book and use a code. I am seeing the practice nurse tomorrow for my flu jab so will see if I can make an appointment to speak with the GP .

Thanks to you folk I now realise this is not the booster . I am 65 and delayed having my vaccines a bit because initially the GP advised me not to so my second one was the beginning of June . This is clearly not 6 months and one week that people requesting a booster have been told they have to wait for .It does feel that after the first well organised vaccine roll out , everything is less clear now .

Also is the case that the astra zeneca jab is less effective against the delta variant ?I hear murmurings on the radio but people then gloss over it . Touch wood I have been lucky and escaped covid so far but recognise we are all at risk even after 2 jabs and will have number 3 if GP agrees . With regard to my current condition, I am on 5.5 mg and feel ok . Slowly does it . I am aware that once I get to 5 , it could be more difficult . Take care all of you

"is the case that the astra zeneca jab is less effective against the delta variant"

According to at least one study, yes.

"Wednesday's study found that two doses of Pfizer's shot was 88% effective at preventing symptomatic disease from the Delta variant, compared to 93.7% against the Alpha variant, broadly the same as previously reported.

Two shots of AstraZeneca vaccine were 67% effective against the Delta variant, up from 60% originally reported, and 74.5% effective against the Alpha variant, compared to an original estimate of 66% effectiveness."
