3rd Vaccine BBC

I read on the forum recently about some of you who were having issues with your surgeries regarding the 3rd Vaccine. There is a news article about it on the BBC news (online anyway 2nd Oct) regarding those of us who are immunosuppressed needing it and roll out. It would be useful to point out to your GP if you are having issues

Do you mean this article?bbc.co.uk/news/health-58763476

It must be emphasised that this is about the roll-out for under 50s with SEVERE immunosuppression. The roll out for over 50s is a parallel and different thing. For us it is the over-50s programme that is applicable - unless you have another immunosuppupressive problem too.

Sorry bit confused. As far as I understood it included the following:

Individuals with chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease who were receiving or had received immunosuppressive therapy prior to vaccination including:

high-dose corticosteroids (equivalent to ≥ 20mg prednisolone per day) for more than 10 days in the previous month

long-term moderate dose corticosteroids (equivalent to ≥10mg prednisolone per day for more than 4 weeks) in the previous 3 months

non-biological oral immune modulating drugs, such as methotrexate >20mg per week (oral and subcutaneous), azathioprine >3.0mg/kg/day, 6-mercaptopurine >1.5mg/kg/day, mycophenolate >1g/day in the previous 3 months

certain combination therapies at individual doses lower than above, including those on ≥7.5mg prednisolone per day in combination with other immunosuppressants (other than hydroxychloroquine or sulfasalazine) and those receiving methotrexate (any dose) with leflunomide in the previous 3 months

which would cover many on the site.? Was going to chase my GP but have I misunderstood?

The vast majority of people on the site are over 50 - and will be getting the jab very soon anyway but for most it must already be 6 months since the second jab. I was referring to the articles which refer to younger patients with severe immunosuppression. It's certainly worth trying to find out what your GP is up to and make sure they are a ware.

Sorry still confused.

Is the booster dose the same as a third full dose? According to

gov.uk/government/publicati...

“This advice on booster vaccination is distinct from, and does not supersede, recent advice from JCVI regarding a third primary vaccine dose for persons who are severely immunosuppressed. JCVI will review at a later date whether such persons require a further booster dose following completion of their 3-dose primary vaccine course.”

So, the above categories are eligible for a full third vaccine dose regardless of age, which can be given any time 8 weeks after the second dose.

Have I got the completely wrong end of the syringe??

I think everyone is confused at the wording - the jab you get is the same stuff - does it really matter when except as soon as possible? That paragraph says that everyone will get a third dose - but I suspect reality means that you will get it when they get their act together and younger, severely immunocompromised patients can have it much sooner than 6 months if their local vaccination service can get it done. But above all, this is just an advisory - and whether the government will implement it as that says does remain to be seen.

Many thanks. Exactly as hubby said, but I was not convinced ! As soon as possible certainly best.

Sounds good, the more jabs the better.

I don't have a problem with frequent jabs - but there people who think what we have isn't good enough!

Jabs have done a fantastic job, given where we were this time last year. Just, as now immunocompromised from only age related risk when this started, keen to get any more protection on offer.

Hi no not that one, sorry, I’ve been working today so just finished, it was saying how some GPs and consultants weren’t aware of the 3rd jab and it should be offered to all immune suppressed people, and expressing concerns about the roll out. I’ve just checked and it’s gone from the news app but I’ll try and find it on the web. Just been for my 3rd jab and it was mainly over 50’s there. GP confirmed it was my 3rd and not my booster.

Good timing to get your third dose. It does seem to get confusing as to eligibility, hopefully your wife will be on the list soon.

My flu jab is next week, just going to have to chase drs for third covid one, our health area is a bit slow, so will be no problem with them interacting!

I live in Scotland. I am 64. I have an appointment for my 3rd dose of the vaccine this week. My elderly MIL has her appointment the same day. My letter clearly says third dose - MIL's letter clearly says vaccine booster. It appears that the boosters are being done here in age order - over 90s are already done and it looks as though the 85+ are being done now. The vaccine strategy document (available through the Scottish Government web site) says that 16 - 65 year olds, with compromised immune systems are being called for a 3rd vaccine while the boosters are being done.
